I've moved on. So can he.

But if he was to stay, it would basically take a POTS worthy campaign before I'll give him any acknowledgement.
As for 'future captain', that is now definitely out of the question.

Probably keeping the channels open, but if decided he wanted to sign agan, I would still make him sign a contract for less than was offered in the season. That was a PL contract, we are now a Championship club.

He's realised that he isn't getting the offers his agent promised, and this is the first press engagement in a series that is designed to let him to slip back into the club pretending that he wanted to stay all along.

If he stays he has to win his place back from Morrison and Mariappa. I'd even consider just telling him to oxf*rd off as an example to other players that might be thinking about taking the piss out of the club *cough HRK cough*

Can we further increase the level of random speculation regarding Pearce's recent thoughts?

I expect the reason he hasn't signed the contract is because he has Nazi sympathies and holds a grudge against Anton for the actions of the Red Army.

NO PLACE FOR POLITICAL STATEMENTS AT THE CLUB I LOVE.

The problem is teams that don't know him would have to scout him and he hasn't played for a team relegated so why would someone think he was worth a gamble - especially on £25k+ a week

Its why his agent is trying Liverpool and Newcastle cos Pardew and Rodgers know him and don't need to watch him in action

Elm Park Pasty ,.. but then he probably thinks 'It's all about the money, money, money' as Jessie J would say.

She no doubt thinks that in private but all she has shared with us so far on the matter is that "it's not about the money, money, money"

Now I feel a bit grubby for defending Jessie J

He's been done up like a kipper by his agent. I don't blame him for that particularly. He's welcome to sign up for us as far as I'm concerned. But if I was Hammond and Adkins, I'd be actively looking for a new centreback and not holding off on signing one just to see what he says. So if he left it too long, it'd just be "sorry Alex, we've already signed your replacement. Shouldn't have dicked around mate. Good luck finding a club."

Id be saying that now - not the "signed" perhaps but "identified". Nothing wrong with a player trying to get a pay rise, or try his luck elsewhere - but like the rest of us in our jobs, you can push it too far and be out

Well, thanks for that well thought out and well articulated post, i'm sure to give it a lot of thought.

Anyway, contract squabble or not, he's still a good player that would be an asset to the team. I don't doubt that he's not on a top wage, and perhaps this is a good indication of how disparity in fees can upset a team. Why should he be paid less than Guthrie, Pogrebnyak, Roberts etc?

I look forward to finding out I must be wrong because I didn't go to the contract negotiations.

I'm not taking sides on this but I think the situation throws light on a problem which affects many teams. There seems to be a coomon perception amongst Managements that home-grown players can be taken for granted whilst transfers require a good package to be put on the table. I do not know the situation with Pearce but it may well be that he is no longer prepared to be taken for granted. Just a thought.

Agreed - there are too many examples of players that, once they've signaled their willingness to leave, are "damaged goods" if they end-up staying.
