CholseyRoyal If we aren't interested or likely to sign Gary Hooper, why would the Chronicle run this story?

QUOTE:-
Pick up the Chronicle on Thursday to read an exclusive interview with Hooper's representative.

Chronicle: Is Hooper going to move to Reading?
Hooper's representative: ALOLITI

Hearing rumours of a possible swap deal with Pog going to Celtic + a bit of cash in return for Hooper. That may not be a bad deal.

Fantastic deal if you ask me we get rid of a lazy lanky Russian, and we get a quality forward with an England future

This is exactly how the conversation will go. Hooper won't sign for us, there are PL clubs interested in him.

None of whom are willing to pay the transfer fee it is required to get him.

Why would he not
a) Work with a manager he knows, and gets along with
b) Give himself a very good chance at PL football next season but with his current in-demand wages demands
c) Get out of the SPL as he's said he wants to do ASAP
d) Get a massive pay rise and another season where he's probably going to look a lot better than what he will in PL, so if RFC dont go up, he can again demand higher wages

PS Im not saying i think this will necessarily happen but its a very blinkered view if you think players dont consider moves to the Championship because there is a few bottom half, prospective relegation candidates Premier League sides in for him

I have to agree, there are some positives to moving here, and AZ seems to have a knack at convincing people.

Hooper seems to be very much overrated on this board.... it's strange.

You're probably right, but I have a 'glass half empty' view of RFC!

Hooper isn't likely to join us, especially if there is genuine Prem interest, but to say there's 'zero' chance is patronising crap.

Well this rumour has lingered a little longer than the usual crap local rag journalism. Perhaps it's on? Could it?!

Think Adkins holds the key here ...if Hooper sees Adkins as the manager who can continue to develop him years on from their time together at Scunthorpe, it could be the deciding factor

Pros:
Easier stepping stone to the PL from the Champ than SPL
Getting into the PL already integrated into a team (if we go up)
England scouts will already be watching us for McCarthy
Knows the manager.
Team with big ambitions.
Not in a relegation scrap.

Cons:
Not the PL
Unlikely to get an International call up.
Guranteed title at Celtic
European football at Celtic.

Seems to me that a/ Hooper is leaving Celtic and b/ He wants to go somewhere where his career will progress. He has previously played for Adkins and, I may be wrong, but I have yet to hear a bad word about Adkins from previous players. Coming from Celtic, the only likely Premiership offers will come from relegation-threatened teams whereas RFC have been consistently Premiership or top of the Championship and we are obviously going places. If our two first signings are Wayne Bridge and Royston Drenthe, Hooper may wish to join the revolution and join the Premiership by promotion. Stranger things have happened.

This isn't going to happen.

I think everyone is getting a little carried away with big names.

Wayne bridge is an old big name. Not slating him, I'm pleased. but he wasn't going to playing in the Prem

The Dutch messi is a sandwich short of a picnic and i think we can conclude from his shear joy at signing, that he wasn't swamped with offers. Its a risk.

Hooper is a different kettle of Scottish salmon.

Lots of better options. Lots.

It ain't happening
