Norfolk Royal
Lalala Rougier I am really pleased about this! Maybe controversially with some. But i don't doubt his heart isn't at Reading. His performances have always shown that. I do just think he has either received some terrible advice on how to handle this situation by his agent, or he did just genuinely feel that he was worth more than the contract being offered to him initially. As a player of the season the year before and now a full international, maybe he had a case. Either way, let's be glad this has been put to bed finally!

A Billy Sharp style double negative there.

I think mine made sense at least........?

Alex Pearce says I’ve said that I wanted to feel valued, and that’s the case now.

You're signing your contract in the hallway Alex.

Lets be fair to him, he's never said he's wanted to leave - he just wanted a pay rise, which tbh we all want in our job

I doubt the Liverpool and Newcastle links were true - just the papers saying "former manager must want him"

Excellent news, top quality defender for the level we're now at, and a real leader too which will be important to complement the talented yet maybe slightly eccentric players we're bringing in.

We need to make sure we keep the best players from our academy. This is as important a signing as the Drenthe one IMO. Massive day for RFC.

and the club called his bluff, "give me a pay rise or I'm off", now he's come crawling back because no-one else thinks he's any good.

This isn't true, there was plenty of interest from lower half PL teams.

Brilliant news, we now have a stronger squad than when we were in the prem, certainly first team. One more signing needed?

Agreed we have a strong squad now - all expectation is going to be on a top 3 finish for the coming season, shirley?

I'm fairly indifferent. Glad that we've got three good CBs for this level that should be able to step up if we are back up in 2014/15, all 3 fairly young and developing although we know their limitations.

I hope it remains Morro/Mapps shirts to lose. Won't boo Pearce, but he's gone down somewhat in my estimation.

But overall glad it's done.

MmmMonsterMunch Strangly I'm annoyed about this. Wanted Morro to get his chance. Just whiffs of Stephen Hunt again. If we are paying him 30k + pw that is stupid.

He better have a fcuking good season now.

Nearer 20k p/w is my guess.

The pressure might not be a good thing. But we have to be favourites for bouncing right back.

Good move by the club. He's a good bit of quality and gives competition for Morrison and Mariappa. Presumably with Gorkss in as backup we're not looking for any further centre backs this summer and just need to get Hector out on loan into Division 3 or 4.

Pleasantly surprised by this. Pearce reads the game very well indeed and I rate him more highly than Morrison (who has some of the natural assets to be better than Pearce in time) and certainly Mariappa who is overr8ed for me.

Well done Nick(y) Hammond.

Morro will get his chance. You can't go through a 46 game season with only 2 CB's.
