Team for next season...?

by JamieY26 » 21 Jun 2013 15:21

Based on the exciting news of the double signing, just thought i'd see what team you would like to see out there.

For me its:

McCarthy

Kelly Pearce Mapps Bridge

Kebe Akpan Carrico Karacan Drenthe

LeFondre

Bench: Fedders, Pearce, Gunter, Guthrie, McAnuff, HRK, Pog

Theres a team that i think could very realistically win the championship! Exciting times!

Is that Pearce starting and on the bench? No wonder his contract took so long to sort out.

With the players we've currently got, I'd go for:

McCarthy
Kelly Pearce Mariappa Bridge
Guthrie Karacan
Kebe HRK Drenthe
Le Fondre

Subs: Federici, Morrison, Carrico, Akpan, McAnuff, McCleary, Pog

Can't see Le Fondre being particularly useful in a 4-5-1.

McCarthy

Gunter - Mariappa - Pearce - Bridge

Kebe - Karacan/Carrico - Guthrie - Drenthe

ALF/Pog - A N Other

Assuming we sign a new striker, I'll reserve judgement on who I'd like to partner him until I see who he is. Given the style that Adkins likes to play, as has been highlighted by others, I think Gunter would be a better choice than Kelly given his greater ability to get up and down the pitch (may need to work on his defensive skills however...)

We're gunna have a bloody strong team though, and a pretty decent squad with the like of HRK, McAnuff and whichever of the either/or options don't make it (assuming they all stay).

I hope we wouldn't play 4-5-1 in the Champ - can't see the need as almost every side we play should be weaker than us in midfield.

--------------------McCarthy
Kelly-------Mariappa---Morrison----Bridge
------------------Karacan / Carrico (if fit)----
Kebe-------------------------------Drenthe
-----------------Guthrie--------------------
-----------Pogrebnyak---ALF-------------

or

------------------McCarthy
Kelly-------Mariappa---Morrison----Bridge
------Guthrie---Karacan---Akpan
------Kebe------ALF------Drenthe

LOL at anyone thinking Kebe will be fit for most of next season (as usual)

He's only useful in a 4-5-1 if you have a playmaker, which we do not.... :(

The encouraging thing is that it is quite hard to pick the starting 11 for 3rd August - even without any more additions.

I can see a few players leaving. I will be surprised if we don't see Kebe and Fed go and possibly even McAnuff and ALF move on. I am not sure about Pog. I think if he wants to stay we should keep him as he could be very good at this level.

The most gutted player must be Morrison. I thought he looked much better at the end of the season and had a nice little partnership going with Mariappa but sure to be dropped for Pearce.

Assuming no more players come or go I would start:

McCarthy

Gunter Mariappa Pearce Bridge

HRK Karacan Guthrie Drenthe

Pog and/or ALF or ANO

Bench - Fed, Morrison, Kelly, McAnuff, McCleary, Blackman, Carrico

To be honest I don't particularly rate Pog or Blackman, and with Roberts never being fit, Alfie was the only choice for me! I do think up-front is probably our one weak area at the moment.

League apps:

08/09 - 41
09/10 - 42
10/11 - 36
11/12 - 33

So 2012/13 was the first in which he wasn't fit for most of the season.

On the assumption we go 4-2-3-1

================McCarthy=================

Gunter======Pearce====Mariappa======Bridge

=========Karacan=======Guthrie===========

McCleary=========HRK============Drenthe

================Pog====================

Taylor, Morrison, Kelly, Carrico, Jobi, Le Fondre, Blackman. Or do we go back to 5 subs I can't remember. If so Kelly and Blackman can make way.

I agree....for last season.

Pog will be quality in the championship, especially as he will get more service to his feet instead of long balls that he struggles with.
I think Blackman's critiscism was awfully over the top. I think he will chip in with his fair share of goals this season. It is not an easy task signing from league 1 and being dumped into a premier league relegation battle.

Agree as well. Our striking options are certainly the weak area at the moment. Also agree, I think the Blackman abuse was unjust and I think he will be good for us next season; but having only seen him in a couple of games I cannot put him in the first 11. Probably need two new strikers.
