Ouroboros
RoyalBlue If Adkins can tame him and get him playing to his full potential, not only will we have a fantastic player but, more importantly, an absolutely superb manager.

Equally I think that, while risky, flirting with relegation in the first half of the seaon could work to our advantage because if we're bottom at Christmas and still win the league we will have an absolutely superb manager.

Absolutely superb managers don't start that badly. They also get their teams playing proper attractive passing football. We've had some damn good managers before but I've a feeling this one may eclipse them and genuinely fall into the absolutely superb manager category.

For those who would prefer a slow start, bottom by christmas and late rally to second (first is taken this year!) courtesy of 'direct football', I believe LUFC may have some tickets available.

Love the comparisons to Bolton, Blackburn and Wolves.

Bolton - screwed financially.
Wolves - fighting relegation for ages so little winning mentality or form to return to
Blackburn - basketcase owners and a club spiralling into trouble.

Anyone who thought Wolves or Blackburn would do well last season was mental. Bolton were hardly a brilliant prospect. Our circumstances are very different.

Great signing. Glad it's all sorted. Not only will he supply at least occasional quality, it's got the opposition thinking. We can concentrate at keeping the excitement going and getting all "Adkins positive." I think we'll be a force next year.

Leeds fans are always a good measure I find. :D

I'm sorry but I am quite worried that we aren't matching Reading's signings as it means they will likely have a better squad than us and finish above us. Ofcourse we still have plenty of time, but how many summers have we sat and watched other clubs sign top players while we sit back and watch, and there are no signs that this year will be any different.
The signing of Matt Smith was hailed on here but the likes of Drenthe, Bridge and Pearce are criticised? OK they have faults, if they didn't they wouldn't be playing for Reading in the Championship, but they are all great signings for this division. We will all support our players but we also have to be objective. If these three signed for us instead I wonder what the general opinion on them would be of them?

Other fans on twitter make me laugh. Saying Roy is a bad signing, he's Europe's biggest flop is laughable and he must be shit because he's joined reading.

Well firstly how many players at the age of 21 get bought for 12m and secondly join Real Madrid. To fail at Madrid is like getting into Oxford uni and walking away with a 2:2.

Not really failing is it.

He was very good at Everton and clearly screwed up because of his mentality. And we can only go by his quotes that he thinks Moyes was right in every way.

Finally, no club will know about every player, in every league and every players contract situation. Maybe those 900 games we scouted enabled us to pounce early.

Barry the bird boggler
2 world wars, 1 world cup Sit back and enjoy as Adkins and Anton build the best squad we've ever had at RFC on paper

Exactly.

That's all we can comment at the moment as who knows if they'll deliver more than season 106 + a whisker away from Europe.

With Pearce staying this is looking to be a damned good squad!!!!!!!

Any player would be mad to go for a relegation-likely Prem team instead of being part of what looks very promising for the next few years... Long live Anton and Adkins!!!!

Reason he's coming to the Championship is so that this won't ever happen to him again: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i8R7cINxqpM

brighton fans seem to think he is a great signing, but what do they know lol,
"They will walk the league this year" "That's bloody ridiculous. How did they manage that?" "IF he doesn't tear this league apart (he will) then I'll be surprised" " Reading are going to take some beating this season. Drenthe is a class signing" "Drenthe is a superstar on his day, with the right application he'd be playing for Man Utd, he really is that good.A quite unbelieveable signing, if Adkins gets him playing then we may as well all pack up and go home."

Brighton fans are throwing in the towel already - they seem to think we are nailed on to walk the Championship. And I thought they were a big club?

dont wanna put a downer on anything but alot of people were excited when pog joined, and look hows thats panned out

Edit: still think pog will score a fair amount in the championship as he will have 10x more service, like anton said, pog cant be blamed as some games last season he never got nothing in terms of service
