One of the best in his position in the Chump, yet finds himself about 4th choice. Would love him to stay, if he leaves I would put a tenner on them winning the league.

In all seriousness, I would assume nothing is happening until we hear something. You could start a thread like this for the whole squad otherwise.

I haven't seen any rumours about him but it wouldn't be a surprise if he moved on and I am sure McDermott will be interested if that's so. I don't think McDermott really did him any favours in the long run last season by making him undroppable even when he was out of form which turned some of the crowd against him and I think that affected his confidence. He's a better player than he showed last season, whatever the style of play, and If he can get his self belief back I still think he can do a good job for someone in the Championship. Not sure it will be for Reading though.

I have to be honest. I thought his career was over at the end of last season, but reading these posts I have had a change of heart.

I believe we should perhaps see his contract out. At his age he won't command a fee I imagine, so we might as well let him run it down. He can do a good job as he showed our Championship winning year, however that's all he will be. We might need that experience. Keep him for this season and then let Brian have him, wherever he will be at that point

If he can get self belief back and cut out those cringe-worthy errors we saw for many weeks then he'll be decent.. for the bench.

If we can keep Guthrie, Karacan, Akpan and Carrico then I'm happy to flog Leigertwood. Otherwise he should stay as back-up.

Got to be worth another year if only for his debt collector role with the players fines. I reckon Drenthe will keep him busy with that!!

Was my favourite player in 2010 and 2011/12. If he goes elsewhere he'll do well. I'd keep him as a squad payer / bit of midfield bite this season and let him leave if we go up.

Think with all the options we have at central midfield it would probably be best for him to move on. Will be missed though, he was a brilliant player for us in the chump.

Him and Carrico are the only midfield enforcers we have. Carrico seems to want to leave anyway and we;ve barely seen him play. But we know Ledge can do a great job at Champ level, he's good at breaking up the play and protecting the back four. If him and Carrico leave, we don't really have anyone who can do that job well. So yes, I'd agree with Maffff.

We have five senior central midfielders plus McAnuff and young options. Of the five, the only one I can see playing successfully in another position is Akpan, and I'd rather have Guthrie, Karacan and Carrico ahead of Leigertwood (even though he's done really well for us and should have won POTS a few years ago). I think he's the sort of player who should be playing week in, week out, not sitting on the bench waiting for someone to get injured or lose form.

I'm not sure we need "a bit of steel"- all our other midfielders know what they're doing defensively. Guthrie was a favourite of Sam Allardyce. Karacan might be a lightweight, but he can tackle. Akpan is very physical, and Carrico has played centre back.

Elmer Park I don't think McDermott really did him any favours in the long run last season by making him undroppable even when he was out of form

It's not like there was anyone to drop him for...

Guthrie, quite clearly. And had Brian handled the situation better, Guthrie would have been a massive improvement as proved when Adkins got him playing; albeit playing proper football and not hit and run.

Well Guthrie was injured or refusing to play for significant parts of the season, and in any case, at those points Leigertwood was playing alongside Tabb, who was much, much worse.

The only point it was viable to drop Leigertwood was when Karacan regained fitness and we signed Akpan, and that coincided with our best form of the season- even though we didn't drop Leigertwood!

I'm kinda going along the lines of this. If we need a defensive midfielder to break up play in a tricky away game, then why not have him as backup for Carrico?
