SCIAG Well Guthrie was injured or refusing to play for significant parts of the season, and in any case, at those points Leigertwood was playing alongside Tabb, who was much, much worse.

The only point it was viable to drop Leigertwood was when Karacan regained fitness and we signed Akpan, and that coincided with our best form of the season- even though we didn't drop Leigertwood!

Tabb was in no way worse than Leigertwood when they both were playing. Had McDermott been playing Guthrie as he should have done, there wouldn't have been a disciplinary problem with him in the first place. We should have been playing 3 across midfield for the most part.

I would be happy if we kept Ledge for back up. I really like the guy, was just out his depth last season, could not cope in a 442 system, was not mobile enough. Looked ok when we played 5 in midfield.

We know he was great in the playoff season and when we went up, but he showed last year he is not a Prem player. May still be a good Chump player, but that was a year ago and his confidence may be shot to shite. If he can play like he did a couple of years ago then could be an asset, but would not be overly sad to see him go. He may well need a change of scenery now for the sake of his own career.

I think if you compare our % of wins in the championship to the % without we would be silly to offload him. Carrico looks like he can tackle but the jury is still out and the media reports he wants to leave. But Guthrie, Karacan and Akpan, well I can count the amount of successful tackles they have made at reading on my fingers . All very talented, but at completely different areas of the game.

Problem is, like with Gorkss, what's the point in trying to go back up with an ageing team who werent up to the prem this year, let alone two years later. So ideally we'll look to develop Akpan or Caricco, even if Legs would do a better job for one season in the championship.

But if "next season in the premierleague" is the strategy, Wayne Bridge doesn't seem to fit.

If Adkins does keep Brian's title winners at the club, then it'll be very hard not to play them, especially if we still aren't winning games.

Plenty more activity to come in the transfer window so wait and see what happens when the players report back for training. Considering the job Adkins has done with the style of football already, I would not be surprised to see Ledge all of a sudden improve as a player. There is a long way to go until the transfer window shuts.

I'd like us to bring in a 'more technical' version of Leigertwood, someone in the middle with his presence but will also contribute to ball retention, but if we can't find such a player then we should keep him. Will be needed for that cliched Tuesday night in Barnsley.

Assuming Carrico ever gets to full match fitness, that should be him. Doesn't look likely though does it.

Get rid.

If a player isn't good enough for the Prem, they're not good enough for us. We are trying to build a Prem team playing Prem football that'll get us out of the chump and seamlessly survive in the Prem.

We're not, I understand, trying to build purely a chump-winning team that we have to then do a hurried massive restructure on like last time.

For me Leigertwood epitomises the McDermott style of football.
I'd love Leeds to offer £500k for him and I'd genuinely thank him for being a good RFC servant, but it is time to move on and develop the style of football that Adkins plays.

Ok, "much, much" was unfair, but he was noticeably worse. In particular, I would cite the Fulham match and the Everton match, where Tabb was completely unable to deal with the strength of Berbatov and Fellaini in the hole, and Leigertwood was the only protection our defence had. Tabb didn't track runs from midfield, which particularly left us exposed against Man United but also throughout his spell in the side, and gave away a very unnecessary penalty against Man United when Evans was moving away from goal. He made those darting runs forward, but they were often ineffective. On a couple of occasions he should have won penalties and was unlucky that the decisions went against him, but he provided very little threat to opposing sides. There was one excellent pass for Le Fondre when we lost to Arsenal.

I rate Tabb, I think he's a good Championship midfielder (there are those on here who maintain he isn't good enough for League 1 which is completely nonsense), but it would have been very odd to keep him in the side and drop Leigertwood, who was providing much better protection for the defence.
