You do know what the parachute payment is for, don't you?! - its not so you can go spend £5m on a player

It might be reckless but there's no rules as to how to spend that money.

£5m on transfer fees
£1m in signing on/agent fees
£30k a week in wages

You're looking at £7m+ - then there are the wages of the players we already have and have bought in. So unless Anton is going to bankroll us we will just end up being another Portsmouth

Rubbish. They had an owner of Russian descent who bought the club with family money and we have...

So does everyone. But some of us are trying to teach loyalroyal22 that spending big on transfer fees is not the only way of spending big. And that the quality of the player is far more important than the fee you paid for them.

He's complaining we're not being ambitious enough purely because we haven't spunked £5m on a transfer fee. By that logic we could have signed Messi and Ronaldo on frees and we'd still be lacking ambition. It's even more flawed because most of the £1m+ signings we have made have been flops or at best partial / slow successes.

You can't argue with the quality of signing we've made so far. Drenthe, Williams and Bridge are all quality, and are all improvements on the PL squad we had last year. Not many relegated teams start a Championship season with a better team than the one that got them relegated.

We're sepnding big on the wage budget. Which is what has the biggest correlation with final position.

Just pointing out that the wages to places correlation doesn't always stack up.

I wasn't complaining about our signings or deniying the club have invested. I'm saying we clearly need a striker and would make sense to invest a big fee for a suitable player that could make the step up to the Prem. Hooper is perfect for us so the board should spend the money and stop bargain hunting.

You stated that wages has the biggest correlation with final position.

Last year QPR paid out some of the highest wages in the Premier League. They finished bottom.

I was pointing out that this was evidence that the correlation didn't always stack up.

Clear now?

Look I can understand people's reservations about spending big just because we have parachute payments including the comparisons to Portsmouth. However I can't see the club going that way, there are several backers involved with RFC now, all part of the TSI group and in my opinion they're doing all the right things, expanding out scouting networks, Cat 1 academy status, covering losses so we don't have to sell.

So I don't feel concerned at all that we may become a new Portsmouth, if it happens I'm wrong but like I say I don't see it happening and it's great to see us going for players like Drenthe and Williams, being linked to players like Hooper, to me the club is progressing a lot and I can't help but get excited.

Of course, and we'd all love to see Hooper come in, but we can take solace in knowing that if we do it will be because we can afford to.

Been watching sky sports news to see if there was any mention of Hooper. I was surprised because a lot of the talk was about the fake hoops.

Do Sky not realise that they are in the Championship now? What is the attraction of QPR?
