Santos have turned down two formal offers in the past two days, the latest one in the region of 25 million euros, well short of the $84M (€65M) buy out clause in Neymar's contract.
Neymar's contract expires immediately after the 2014 World Cup and with the striker announcing this week that he has no plans to renew that contract Santos could lose their prized asset for free, which In commercial terms would be disastrous for the club.
At Santos marketing receipts have increased more than 400%, turnover increased 200% & fee paying supporters are up 40% since his debut in 2009. With his club only contributing 15% of his monthly wage (the remainder covered by 11 different sponsors), Santos are facing up to a future without their main attraction as it seems to now be just a job for the money men to thrash out how much they can get from the Catalan giants this summer.
