Jem Karacan given a chance to shine by new boss Nigel Adkins

The midfielder admits he felt held back under previous manager Brian McDermott
Jem Karacan says he has had the shackles taken off his game since the arrival of Nigel Adkins.
The midfielder admits he felt held back under previous manager Brian McDermott, who used him more as a disruptive player in the middle of the park.
Karacan insists he has always had more to offer than that and is now being given the chance to express himself.
He said: “The gaffer has come in and helped me get my confidence back in terms of being a passing player.
“I think towards the end of last season that showed more and more.
“Even Tuesday’s game it was good having the confidence to get on the ball every time and not be afraid losing it.
“I think that’s massively helping my game and helping me improve as a player.
“The gaffer has given me a license and I’m loving every single minute of it and I’m positive about the coming year.”
Looking back to his time under the previous manager, Karacan felt his game was under-used by McDermott.
Instead of being a player who looked to move forward, he always found himself having to try and disrupt the opposition.
“It was frustrating for myself in certain aspects of my game,” he said.“Sometimes I felt a little bit held back.
“You’d be hearing people saying, ‘get him on the ball, get him on the ball and then Jem you just get about, hassle players and get around the pitch.’
“I know that’s part of my game and I’m lucky to have a natural energy but I’ve always wanted to be the guy who’s on the ball and take the game by the scruff of its neck.
“It just becomes frustrating when you’re not able to express yourself as much as you can.”
Despite the frustration he felt during McDermott’s time in charge, Karacan insists it never crossed his mind to complain.
The 24-year-old could see his methods were working on the pitch so was happy to do as asked.
He said: “It’s always the manager’s decision.
“I was never going to bang on the door and say I can do this and I can do that.
“Especially when I was playing quite well and we were winning promotion to the Premier League.
“I’m never going to be one that goes banging or knocking on doors saying we should change style.
“For me, there was nothing to really speak about.
“I was doing my job day in, day out.
“I was keeping my shirt and that’s what I always wanted to do.”
Karacan added: “I’ll never have a bad word to say about Brian.
“He got us promoted, he took us from near relegation to winning the league the next season.
“He made me a Premier League player and he gave me the chance to play at Wembley.
“There’s loads of things I learned under him and it was a brilliant part of my career.”

Alexander Litvinenko plus, of course, the only words that come out of teh clubs are positive, supportive words, vetted by the media team.
