CayeneMatt A non-event signing until proven otherwise. Strip out the spin from the club PR boy, and there's zero substance. Perfectly willing to be proved wrong as the season progesses and I hope I am.

Drenthe might be overweight and slightly out of form, but at least he has a proven pedigree.

Quote from one of the Americans i work with:

"Defensive mid - big, strong, quick and not afraid of going forward. Solid technical skills. If Bradley (AC Roma) didn't have a lock on the position, he'd see more US team time"

CayeneMatt I have never heard of Danny Williams therefore he is oxf*rd despite playing for a (until recently) good side in one of the toughest leagues in the world..
I have heard of Royston and Real Madrid so he is really good.

Having been in the States for far too long, I've seen Williams play with the national team a bit. The above quote is exactly how I would describe him (although I'd replace Bradley's name with Jermaine Jones). He's a very solid signing - nothing spectacular (he's not going to score goals), but a player who can certainly play significant minutes for a good Championship team and help to hold the midfield. He's also versatile, and can play wide, centrally, and both in D (in a pinch) and midfield, but he's better in the middle, if you ask me. As a side note, he's more German than American - he was raised in Germany and speaks with a German accent, if you listen to him. He decided to play for the USA, but his upbringing is German, so he's not the typical US player. He played for Germany, at the youth level.

He missed a lot of last season with an ankle injury, so hopefully this latest knock isn't a recurrence. He'll also need time to play his way back into form, given his lack of playing time last year. Give him a couple of months before making an opinion - I think he's an excellent addition to the team, personally. He's also pretty good friends with Sigurdsson, from what I understand.

When I listened to him on the BBC, I thought yeh this guy is sensible, modest, quiet, professional and will get on with things like a Jay Tabb.

Clearly not. Seems like a crazy bastard.

I thought Williams was superb when he came on and was the difference. Much better passer, showed vision going forward and good turn of pace. Very impressive debut.
