Complete shock. I thought he'd be 'another Karacan' but maybe slightly bigger. Whoa! Didn't expect surging midfield runs, nice turn of space, tidy passing.

OK, it was only a fleeting viewing, but to use a Holloway-ism, if she was a first date, I'd be happy if she ended up in the cab! (Or whatever it was...)

+1 to all the praise for him on here. I don't think Adkins would like to change a winning side (at least not until the Sat/Tue games start coming thick and fast) but I think he probably did enough today to be in real contention to start next weekend. A couple of really promising runs and a real desire to keep playing 'til the end instead of faffing about in the corners (granted he was probably trying to prove himself and may have been involved in said faffing if he'd been on the pitch a little longer).

He really looked good. Think maybe what we have been missing in cm. He reminded me of Sidwell. You can see that he has played in Germany. He is tough and classy.

The big question is who should be dropped so that he starts?

Until he's fit, Drenthe will have to play that role behind the front man, as he wont get back and support the full back - so with Guthrie taking the other CM spot it only leaves Karacan to miss out

To be fair, HRK has little to no defensive ability, and I've not seen much from McCleary either.

That doesn't mean anything though?

An unfit Drenthe can't be any worse at defending than HRK.

When Adkins asks them to defend in games that are tight, then yes, it will

He is, too all intents and purposes, German with the benefit of a German footballing education so it comes as absolutely no surprise to hear that he is strong and technically excellent on the ball. Maybe I've been building him up a bit too much in my own mind but I see him as James Harper with the footballing ability of Lothar Matthias circa 1990.

I don't know what happened at Hoffenheim last season but I'd seen him play a handful of times for the US Men's National Team...I knew what we were getting. :D

i would play williams, guthrie and karacan, having the extra man made a difference. This three wingers thing wont work without a solid midfield. Start next game how we finished against ipswich.

Agreed, especially away from home. We might even be able to use Williams as our 'Yaya' in terms of playing slightly further forward.
