Just saw the attendance - 20k, not too bad for the season opener.

Dominated first 15, conceded sloppy goal,lost our heads but managed to pull it back. 2nd half much better, kept the ball, constantly proving and deserved the win. Good balance,good shape, good new additions, positive signs all round really.

Mcarthy-7 one great save
Morrison/Pearce 6 fannying about in the box for their goal, otherwise solid.
Bridge/Gunter 7 solid at the back, offered something going forward.
Karacan 6 anonymous in first half, better 2nd.
Guthrie 7 awful first half, like last season, but fair play he grabbed the game by the scruff if the neck 2nd half. Good goal.
Drenthe 7 looked good.grew into the game, and when we were pushing for the win worked really hard and looked dangerous.
Kanu -6 anonymous, few nice touches
Mcleary 8 - excellent, caused problems cutting in, and crossing, made stuff happen
Alf 7 did his job and scored,worked hard, did little else

Pog 6 meh
Jobi 6.5 did ok
Williams 7 looks the business

I'd go with that. Keep Morrison of the ball if possible.

What has McAnuff actually done to deserve the amount of crap he got last season and is still getting now?

Totally undeserved, he works bloody hard for the team and is a good player. I'm glad when he walked over to take a corner by the North Stand quite a few people clapped him, he in return clapped back.

It drives me mad to and the double standards are even worse.

Today Guthrie had a good game and was man of the match but he was quiet for much of the first half, went for the spectacular over the percentage pass far too often, over-hit the ball so it went straight out of play on multiple occasions, berated Gunter (?) for not to passing to him when he was marked despite the recipient of the pass being unmarked, gave possession away cheaply near our own box which against a better player could have led to a goal and cocked up a promising attack near the end.

After each of those occasions he got a polite round of applause for the effort so wasn't afraid to go for that fantastic pass to Kanu or the the shot that deflected in, when McAnuff (and others) made the same sort of mistakes (and often lesser ones) last year against better teams large chunks of the crowd would have groaned and a minority of them would booed or shouted abuse which must have made it harder for him.
Although admittedly I didn't hear any booing towards McAnuff today so it must have only been a handful of people.

I get the feeling Pog is undeservedly the official "escapegoat" for what happened last season...

Apart from setting up the goal (possibly by mistake, hard to tell there and equally in the youtube clip) he was shit at Rovers. I know it's only pre season and shouldn't matter but he needs to show something to get fans back onside. That said I didn't hear any boos when he came on but those that did should be ashamed.

Drenthe and Guthrie and Williams looked great.

Good support from the East stand 2nd half, particularly again well done to the boys at the front who wouldn't sit down.

Really pulled it round and showed his quality, playing a bit further forward, really involved.just what we need from him. Can't give him mom due to the first half mcleary for me

I was asked to 'sit lower' in the South stand today. That's a new one on me. I pointed out the 500-600 empty seats that her disinterested 4-year-old could sit in. So you know...it's all relative.

No, the boys who stood up in Y26 upholding a tradition that goes back to the 19th century should be proud. If someone chooses to buy a ticket in the one part of the ground where their view might be obscured by standing if they want to sit tough titty. But you're on a windup so...

Can't say I have much sympathy for people whose view is blocked by people standing. There are plenty of other places in the ground to sit.

It was barely 20 yards from me and quite understandable to be honest.
Pearce's passing had been absolutely woeful up till then (about 30 mins in).
He was being a complete wuss, refusing to take the risk of passing it short and forward, instead either hoofing it or passing (literally) the responsibility on to Morrison or McCarthy.

In the end, after Guthrie presented himself unmarked to Pearce for an easy pass, and Pearce once again refused to put himself under any pressure and shipped the ball square to Morrison, Guthrie and the majority of the crowd around me gave Pearce an earful.

I know some of you will say shouting at him doesn't help his confidence and all that, but many of his passes up till then had been completely toothless, pretty much ducking out of a challenge and shifting the burden on to his teammates.

Fair enough, it was a way off from where i was sitting, but it could have been dealt with a bit better. Having a barny in-front of 20,000 people isn't the way. P.S He was constantly on at Gunter too. Throwing his arms up and barking little comments at him, specifically when coming forward in the first half. Gunter lost confidence as the game went on.
