Cardiff striker Nicky Maynard is on his way to Reading in a £1.2m deal.

Reading fans thought they were after Etien Velikonja of Cardiff, but it's Maynard.

Didn't he used to be good?

Always injured.

Probably the best a set of idiots can think of. Proper strikers might cost money.

Completely forgot about Maynard, he was quality a few years ago and still must be at a good age. He has bags of pace and can finish, we definitely are missing a pacey forward and so I'd be happy if this one turned out to be true.

He was always a top champ striker. Injuries I assume have kept him out I don't know.

melonhead

But was he a boy and was he born?

i need clarification?

does the question: " will a boy ever be born who can swim faster than a shark?" denote the child must swim faster than a shark from birth, before manhood, or ever?

years of research rests on the answer

Good question, and one I have pondered for many years since Gareth's genius statement.

If he meant ever then surely it would be needless to specify it has to be a boy and that he has to be born, and could've just asked "Will a man ever swim faster than a shark?"

The fact that he specifies "boy" and that he must be "born" suggests to me he is thinking of a neonatal champion.

Philosophers can spend hours on this.

God bless Gervais.

As for Nicky Maynard, I had a colleague once surnamed Maynard, was an absolute ****ing bellend. Reading fan too but probably too dense to be on the Internet.

For that reason I say no.

Billy Sharp's agent (James Featherstone) was a guest at the Madejski Stadium this afternoon, seen sat with Director of Football Nick Hammond.

Reading have had an £1m offer for Leeds striker Ross McCormack rejected. Leeds have enquired about taking Reading midfielder Mikele Leigertwood in a player plus cash deal. Brian McDermott has been keen to bring the holding midfielder to the club but couldn't raise the £500k required prior to Reading's opening offer for McCormack.

Yes pls.

I know it's football rumours rubbish, but I'd love it to be true. McCormack is a good player and it'd be great to get rid of leigertwood.

He's fifth choice behind Guthrie, Karacan, Williams and Akpan. He will be getting paid to do nothing this season, so yes I am for real.

He was injured for our only game so far this season, so you don't know where he is in the pecking order, but even if he is 5th choice, then great, it means we have strength in depth.

Last December against Sunderland our bench was probably the weakest ever assembled in the PL, this year we need to make sure we have enough cover when players get injured/throw tantrums. Selling players just because they don't make the starting xi on day 1 is suicidal.

I'm not %100 sure but I don't think he started a game under Adkins last season so that's why I think he is fifth choice. If AZ is stuck for money then a player plus cash deal for McCormack is a good way to get a quality striker, which is what we need, for a discount price.

So he's a quality striker, but Billy Sharp wouldn't be a worthwhile signing? :?

Afraid I don't understand your logic.

All this talk of spending the parachute payments on new players is patent nonsense. It is there to help club deal with the massive drop in income. Not only TV money, but lower gate receipts, probably less in shirt sponsorship, less corporate hostility, more travel costs (more games), retain staff- not just players, but sport scientists, nutritionists...plus of course the academy costs a bit and will be a few years before it pays for itself.

We will not spend £m on a single player. I personally would be very very surprised if Paddy Madden isn't being considered, would be exactly our sort of player...
