SPARTA McCarthy solid but can't kick a football to save his life.
To be fair, the defence did make a number of back passes to him, at times under pressure hoofing it away can be the best option.

Yep, also looked like McCarthy kept remembering what he'd been told to do, and that it wasn't what his natural instinct told him to do.

I'm sure kicking is something he can improve and be more natural with throughout the season, the most important thing is that he solid between the sticks.

Tokyo Sex Whale How long ago is it since a Reading player scored a goal at home?

*This weekend was an OG and a huge deflection?

if you really want to discount them, and the OG by Baker of Villa on March 9th, then it was Kebe's second v Sunderland on 2nd Feb.

CrispyRoyal Yeah, but Guthrie apologised to Brian and the fans, what's the problem now? It's done, in the past, what he once did no longer matters. What does matter, is he showed his desire and commitment to the club yesterday with a great performance and a good goal. Funny how when Guthrie was rubbish so was the team, and when Guthrie got his act together and started to grow into the game, eventually coming out as the key man on the pitch, the whole team improved and seemed to play around him. It was like Guthrie was at the heart of everything, it was really clear to see, and shows he will be vital this year.

To still critisize him for something that happened under different managers in a different season and about 8 months ago is ridiculous. He is part of the team now, he apologised for what he did, what does it matter anymore? People need to let that go..

LOL.
apology accepted for sure danny,
i was happy to move on as soon as brian said he had.
but if he wants my love and trust and respect he still has some way to go.

if your missus shagged your brother, but then apologised. would it all be ok?
how long would you think it would take for it all to become ok?
sometimes an apology on its own, means next to nothing

id imagine a couple of whole games where he looks like he did 2nd half, and he'll be fully forgiven.
that'd be like your missus apologising for shagging your brother, and her allowing you anal/3somes for a few weeks to make up for it.
youd start to come round

Your comparison to my misuse getting off with my brother is laughable. Refusing to sit on the bench is hardly adultery is it? Why can't you accept his apology? His goal and performance on Saturday showed his heart is in the club now, at least with Adkins in charge it is. He showed passion for the club, and that is what matters to me, not absurd comparisons to fictional events.

Guthrie cares, he has my respect back, refusing to sit on the bench for a game we were thrashed in hardly matters to me, what difference could he have made? It doesn't matter anymore, that was nearly a year ago.

Extended-Phenotype We won our first game at home and first game of the season for an eon, played well and saw a player be a vital cog in that win, yet the focus of this thread for some seems to be an irrelevant year old fallout.

I’m saying that’s odd and that what I feel is important is how well people play.

That’s then made out to be ‘jizzing over his picture’ or demonstrating I would let him f/ck my wife if he apologised afterwards.

It’s obvious to anyone which side is being rational.

i simply explained why i didnt make him man of the match.
despite him very much being one of the best players on the pitch, and among those who had the most influence on the game.

which is then made out to be me holding some sort of never ending, unjustified grudge against a player, which means i can never acknowledge when he's done well, as some sort of revenge for wot he done to my brian.

thats just how the internet works.
but i admire your passion and drive for trying to reform that

at no point did i say your brother was actually sleeping with your wife m8, calm down, im sure there really is nothing going on.

ive already set out my criteria for my forgiveness. which im sure he is desperate to obtain.

i used the adultery example purely to demonstr8 that forgiveness/reconcilliation does not work simply by someone apologising and thats it.
im not saying guthries offence = adultery
in the same way i wouldnt be comparing it to murdering 6 million jews if i made the same comment about hitler apologising for the holocaust

apologising is the first step on the road. i for one am happy he did it, and it makes me hopeful that this shameful episode, and the resulting deep upset may one day be resolved.
i shall focus all my efforts on attaining that from my end, and if he does the same there is some hope for us both.

im saying that all reconcilliations take time. perhaps ive spoiled teh argument by using such emotive examples.

have another which i hope will be more succesful:

a work colleague has stolen my chocolate bar from the fridge........
in scenario 1: he laughs, says he is sorry, but doesnt replace it and shows no outward signs that he is contrite
in scenario 2: he laughs, says he is sorry, replaces it, and never does it again.
in scenario 3: he frowns, upset that he has upset me, holds his hands up in placation, says i thought it was mine, im really sorry, it wont happen again, here have another one which i am replacing it with. he then works tirelessly every day to prove to me that he deserves my trust and respect again.

in scenario one, my forgiveness is not granted. unless things change, it never will be.
in scenario two, , accept his apology somewhat grudgingly, but since he replaces it and doesnt do it again, i eventually grant forgiveness. though secretly i shall maintain some mistrust for a while & if in future another chocolate bar goes missing, ill still be considering him as prime suspect.
in scenario three, he has gone out of his way to apologise, make recompense, AND to show me he still deserves my trust over a period of time, and i grant full forgiveness, and my long term trust levels for him remain undamaged.

i see the process between me and danny as closer to scenario 2 at present, but he showed good signs 2nd half, and looked to be moving toward scenario 3, if this continues i hope we can both put this behind us and move on.

no no no.

me giving him a 7 was based on him having a poor first half imo.
below and beyond the poorness of the team in general.
i acknowledged that I think he should better than other players, not as good, and thatim harder on him due to previous misdemeanors.

"im sorry" is only the first step towards reconciliation.
it takes time to get to forgiveness, and finally to trust again..
the time taken will depend on the offence, what the offender does to make it up, and on the person who is supposed to be trusting again.
i am moving towards forgiveness,i really am, and beyond that to one day trust again.
im glad you have managed to get there sooner than i.

I don’t care that you have him a 7. Never said anything about what you scored him.
I never said anything about him apologising or that apologies make everything ok.

I think your brain is broken. But I know why and to be honest, fair dos.

melonhead lol at that making it ok to refuse to play

No one (at least no one with half a braincell, which I sometimes think might rule out RL) has ever suggested he was right to refuse to play. But people had sympathy for his position without condoning the action, because of the piss poor handling of him and performances without him.

FFS, why do you have to use this to have a stupid pop at me? Then you go on to agree with what I have to say.

Teamwise, I'm glad that McAnuff is not going to be guaranteed a starting spot this season, he can work for it like the rest of them. Adkins appears to be taking the sensible approach, appointing a captain on a game by game basis, based on who's on the pitch through merit.

Certain forum members who have been assuring us all summer that McAnuff will remain captain and is the best player in the team are clearly a) upset that Adkins disagrees with them and b) upset that other fans agree with Adkins.

Hahaha so true. He is not good enough to be in our starting 11 on merit, Adkins knows this and knew he had to change the captain in order to have our best 11 on the pitch.

And yeah we were talking shit wernt we? Not naming any names though (Ian RoyaLOL)

:| He's still captain.

AAAAAARRRGGHH!

We played well once we settled into our first game back, he played well, we won and yet people are banging on about an incident which happened almost a year ago under a different manager in a different season.

Apologies don't make what he did right, playing well does. He's doing the latter now, so why does this remain an issue to be raked up after every game dominating each thread when surely the focus should be the three points we took on Saturday and the stand-out performances from Guthrie, Drenthe, Williams and McCleary.

Like I said with my first post; it's odd that people are cross that he played well or have to turn the thread's attention back towards old, dead news.

Just watched the highlights. Drenthe looks an absolute beast of a player! Nearly a goal from his corner before McCleary's top cross back in and ALF's superb header under pressure. Great strike from Guthrie, although I can't help feel the keeper should have done better. Good save from McCarthy at 1-1... HRK? suspect on picking up Tabb after McCarthy's save for their goal.

Tabb perhaps showing he was another player misused as just a water carrier by McDermott? Some very nice attacking play and shooting from him judging by those highlights.

No, he was playing on the wing for them and there is no way he was a better wing option than the likes of Kebe, McAnuff, HRK and others.
