sandmanRoyalwaster Also, teaching a goal keeper to kick the ball is probably one of the easiest skills to teach.
If it was that easy then he'd have learnt it to a better degree by now especially given the fact he has come through an academy set up. I watched him in the warm up on Saturday and he was nowhere near the level you'd expect a top keeper to be whereas Federici hit the ball accurately every time.
All I'm saying is if he is to go for big money and become a top keeper then he needs to improve drastically because the best like Casillas, Neuer and Valdes are all comfortable with the ball at their feet.
He is comfortable with the ball at his feet. It's just the ball going from his feet to further than halfway up the pitch he has a problem with.
Whilst he fooked up in pre-season and got caught out, he still showed he was comfortable on the ball in rounding the striker. If he then hadn't been unbelievably casual and distributed straight away he'd never have conceeded.
If he's not relying on long kicking, which he isn't and Fed does, then his lack of quality at it is far less important. It is still something he needs to seriously work on if he wants to play much for England or a top 6 club. But frankly, I'll settle for him failing to improve it, because the rest of his game is getting too good for us and it's one of the few ways we might hold on to him for more than another season or two.
