Anybody who brings flares or fireworks or smoke bombs to a football match is a massive pcunt IMO.

Had the same discussion on another forum and the general gist was that they're alright, but for a good atmosphere people wanted a return to the more meanacing atmospheres of the 70's/80's.

Can't say I disagree with that tbh, games with an edge generally have much greater atmospheres, so I'd take that, minus the violence (or at least as much of it).

In the rest of Europe support is much more visual than it is over here, so flares, huge flags, big banners and choreography in the stands are very common. Here though the support is usually just vocal so flares etc. just don't seem to be part of what British fans do. I wouldn't object to someone lighting a flare and just holding it cautiously, but I can't ever see myself with one.

I'd near on wet myself if someone lit a flare in the upper west... It would take the mufty squad a good 10 mins to get round from the south-east corner & up those stairs in all their gear! In the meantime the assailant would have vanished in a puff of smoke.

You can't have a menacing atmosphere without the chance of a good shoeing.
Otherwise it would not be menacing would it ?

(Smoke bombs) I think their great as long as not used constantly , hardly a threat to health they are over in a minute, there's always somthing that people find to moan about, being banned and imprisoned I see as pathetic tbh

The only Reading games I recall them being at:

Reading v Norwich
Reading v Liverpool
West Ham v Reading

We seem to be one of the last clubs to have not used it so far.

Yellow one from the Norwich fans.

A couple of red ones from the Liverpool fans.

A black one from the West Ham fans after one of their goals on the opposite side of the Trevor Brooking stand from our fans.

No pictures or the like and I can't be arsed to look for some.

As for the other statement, I've seen pictures of most other clubs using them, certainly most in the PL and Championship, and a fair few in League 1 and 2.

Norwich definitely let one off, but it was awful, probably from a paintball supplier.

Don't recall one at West Ham, or specifically at Liverpool though I can well believe that Liverpool did on the Thatcher death weekend as they were definitely letting off bangers and other fireworks.
