Royalclapper Can't believe you have a new coach now at Werder, Thomas Schaaf has been there for years - Longer than Otto Rehhagel?

Nearly the same time, for 14 years, but Schaaf was at Werder since 1972. Yes, it's hard to believe and everyone was struggling with himself in this matter, because he's a true legend, great and reasonable guy, but on the other hand he, let's say, obviously missed some developments which made many other teams doubling us. Strange days at Werder. Many years of Champions League and then three years of struggles to stay in Bundesliga. Was a hard clash which strained the nerves of many supporters. Last semi-season was the worst in whole club-history, so they decided to go on with a new coach. Important was that his alter ego, Klaus Allofs, dismissed the club for wasting VWs-money at Wolfsburg half a year before. Last weekend we said goodbye to Thomas with biggest choreographie in club's history (from 2:33 on): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stj1xcTvS2k

Great, looks like the development at the Weser is completed. I have a Werder Bremen supporter friend who lives in Osnabruck so I have visited Germany lots of times and been to Werder games in a number of Stadiums.

Also can't believe that Eintracht Braunschweig are now in the Bundesliga, I visited there for a Regionalliga Nord or (3. Liga) derby game vs Osnabruck that wasn't so long ago.

LoyalRoyal22 Hello and thank you for the information

is he suitable to play as a lone striker?

I'd rather see him as a lone striker than in a position where he has to play a lot and work also in the midfield, which would be more demanding. He got the skills to get his body between ball and defender, so I'd say yes. What kind of system does the Reading FC play?

Sounds promising then. We play 4-3-3 and 4-2-3-1, but we are lacking a striker that can play upfront on his own..

Yes, they made a really cool development, worked seriously and gave a good impression the first two matches against us and Dortmund yesterday. It's cool to have clubs like them back in Bundesliga and hope they may succeed in staying, since they got the lowest budget.

btw, it seems that getreading.co.uk mixed Akpala up with Michael Eneramo. Don't be surprised when Akpala looks a bit different than expected.

I'd rather see him as a central striker in a 4-2-3-1 than in a 4-3-3 where he may have to castle (?) on the wings. Like I tried to say: He chose with Werder the wrong club at the wrong time, when everything starts to crumble there, and may be he could be very useful in the end.

We like to hold and give, but do it at the right time. We can be slow or fast but we must get to the line. We'll always hit you and hurt you, defend and attack. There's only one way to beat us, get round the back.

SPARTA 2 players spotted this morning with coaching staff in the hotel, one of which I assume then is Akpala. We must be looking at another as well.

Isaac Hunt we're also taking a look at a young striker from Glenavon FC this week as well.

Come on SPARTA, what more do you know as you seem to be right about two players at the club this week?

Yes, he moves very well and had shots on target against us, but happily didn't aim that well. Btw: The crowd on worum.org switched to a "kind of" english in the Akpala-thread, in case you wanna have some more "insights". http://worum.org/threads/6019-Joseph-Ak ... ost8191587

Keep us up to date, Michael. Any idea of fee? He looks pretty useful, and very quick.

We paid about 1,5m €, should be appr. 1,3m Pounds. He's got a contract until 2016, but our manager Eichin said some days ago to the press, that he's free to look for another club. He won't be that expensive and we kind of like to have him off the payroll, since we bought a new striker last week.
A little OT: Actually there are rumours about John Arne Riise having talks with our management. There are very various opinions about him. What do you think, is he still good (and fast) enough or just living by his merits?

Riise is still a half decent player but not worth the €60,000 a week he would want in wages.

If we were in the Premiership and signed him, I'd be underwhelmed.

Akpala sounds like just the sort of player we need though and if he costs less than £2m then it could be a pretty good deal.

That's over 3Mio a year. Well, Werder couldn't pay that anyway, we struggled hard while getting rid of all the CL-Players and their contracts, but thanks for the opinion! I think Akpala earns about +/- 1 Mio €/year, probably depending on bonus fees for goals, matches, etc.
