has apparently turned down a move to Bristol City. Has agreed terms with Millwall, but Millwall can't agree money up front with Reading

No point keeping a third choice right back

I think he's got more promise than Gunter at times

At times...but not consistently enough. Quite probably it's more his need to play more that's forcing this, I think.

Feel sorry for Cummings. He rarely has a bad game and is as good defensively as Gunter and Kelly but he does lack something when he gets over the half way line.

I will always remember his performance as a stand in winger at Cardiff in the P/O semi. He was very good that day.

He is a good Championship player but never likely to be PL.

He's nowhere near as good as Gunter. He comes in and does a job from time to time, but as never played regularly enough to show how bad he is.

The fact that McDermott chose to sign two right backs last season says it all really, and those two right backs are still miles ahead of him.

Pepe the Horseman never played regularly enough to show how bad he is.

That's the Reading spirit, forever negative.

Be surprised unless we sign a left back as it leaves us with only three full backs. Cummings and Kelly have both shown they're adequate at LB, but it's a bit much asking Kelly to cover both slots.

Especially at the same time.

I like him but sadly he will not improve us. Kelly/Gunter are more than good enough!!

I agree, you have to give credit to him. Wasn't he dubbed the "worst Reading player ever seen" when we first bought him? But ever since then he progressed massively and is still a great RB, but won't get the minutes he deserves here :(

It's what we all thought, but were too scared to ask.

I don't buy into the Gunter love in at all. He's played badly and made mistakes in almost every single game he's played for us

Kelly is no better at right-back. He was brought in as some kind of savior and has been remarkably average. He has little pace and doesn't get forward in support of the winger, which is what Adkins wants. I'd have Cummings over Kelly.

I wouldn't call Kelly average. He was brought in at a time when goal after gol were coming through the right back position. He plugged the gap and if that'd been our only problem we'd have been ok. No he doesn't get forward very well, but we need a better defence right now. A winger will be better if he has confidence in the guy behind him to defend for him.
