RoyallyFcuked I'd be happy now even with an RFC sytle transfer of a potentially good League One or Two player. Someone like Nakhi Wells from Bradford.

As long as Pog is shown the door and we bring someone half decent in I will be pleased.

Wont get Nakhi Wells for under a million. Inflated market and what not.

thirtyyarder
Hoop Blah MADreadingfan just about sums it up!

Roberts coming back is a long way off yet, and when he comes back the probability is that he's not going to up to football at this level.

As for competing for 1 place up front, did you not notice we played with two forwards, plus Drenthe, on Saturday.

I wanted to ask about this but was too intimidated by all the big boys on the the other thread. How exactly did we line up on sat? Was it a 451 or a 442? Which side was Blackman on?

As IR said, it was pretty much a 4-3-1-2 with Drenthe as the 1 and he'd often push on to make it 3 up front with Blackman generally on the right of the three and Le Fondre on the left. Presumably this was to stop Watford building from the back too easily.

The midfield 3 of McAnuff, Guthrie and Karacan were excellent in my opinion.

I struggle to read formations sometimes, so I'm rather pleased someone who I'm pretty confident actually knows what they're talking about agrees.

To me it looked pretty clear it was 4-4-2 with a diamond where Guthrie sat deep and Drenthe pushed forward. Of the strikers Blackman played on the right.

Interesting to see our U21s and seniors both lining up with fluid 4-3-1-2s in the space of a week.

I can't see us using that formation too much this season, because there isn't really anywhere for Kebe, McCleary or HRK, but it looks like Adkins is seriously considering it as an option.

Where he played Saturday, generally the right side of the three in midfield.

The way Drenthe pushed on, especially when we didn't have the ball, it played a bit more like 4-3-3 than just a diamond 4, but there really isn't a lot in it.

It was fantastic the way Royston powered forward, their defence was scared shitless :D

I think switching to wingers is plan B for when we want to throw a lead away.

Seriously though, 4-3-2-1 might be an option with the 2 out wide

Linked with Rickie Lambert again in the papers today, West Ham too. Lazy journalism.

It was a basic 4-4-2 but the wingers were pushed more central to dominate the space along with Karacan/Guthrie. That's why we smashed the first half. Second half our midfield just wasn't positioned correctly.

To me it was

The opposition can change their formation to counter.

Zola did so by taking off a holding midfield player and bringing on an attacking player behind the front 2.

Although he didn't say anything post match. Nige learnt a lot about the team in the last 20 minutes.

Yeah, surely we can afford to spend £1m on a 23 year old striker who is potentially going to be a pretty good player? I think he would be worth it.

If not, anyone else think HRK could be the answer to partner Le Fondre upfront? Or at least another good option.

FAO Adkins

by LoyalRoyalFan » 24 Aug 2013 17:07

All talk, no end product.

You've had months to sign a striker and yet you still play Nick Blackman up front.

All this tippy-tappy football and we still leak goals all over the shop.

What's that? McDermott and his Leeds side are above us on the table.

Funnily enough Adkins actually takes note of mongs like you.

Yes we need to improve, but we are 4 games in to a new season. it takes time to adapt a new style.

We have 2 very good strikers at this level, Alf and Pog, but for some reason Adkins prefers Blackman.

And who gives a shit about McDermott and Leeds, we are 4 games in, grow up, it'll be fine
