Leigertwood at center back

by marcusopp » 05 Sep 2013 09:27

I'm sure someone posted this a month back, but i couldn't find it.
Given we have an embarressment of riches in center midfield, i wouldn't be suprised to see Adkins play Leigertwood at center back from now on.
Even though Adkins hasn't played him at all yet and appeared not to favour him, we kept him on while other players were let go.
A lot of defensive midfield players find themselves at center half as they get older, so it seems to be the natural progression for him too.
Either way, i'm glad he wasn't released.
That would also mean four senior center nacks at the club again, meaning we don't have to panic about suspensions/ injuries too much.

He's been injured since the back end of last season so hasn't been available for selection by Adkins.

Believe he has played CB in his day so could be an adequate 4th choice CB.

*shrug*

Surely he wasn't released because he was under contract. You can only release players who are out of contract unless you give them the balance of thier deal.
He may well be ok as an emergency 4th choice Cb but would he be a better option than Hector - who is a specialist.

We've moved on from him. He's a great option to have as back up - the new Gunnarsson maybe. But he's not going to get passed Guthrie, Karacan or Williams. All who offer something defensively in different ways and all who are more mobile and / or better passers. Legs laconic days for us in midfield are largely over bar injury crises

No he really shouldn't be. He'll go on loan once fit. He's what, 4th choice CDM now? (Karacan, Williams, Akpan)

He's definitely played under Adkins, he was part of the team that got ripped apart by Arsenal (the 4-1 loss at the Emirates).

As for him moving to CB, as much as I rate him as a CM in this league, I think he's far too slow physically and at times mentally to cope in a back four and is best left in the middle of the park.

Three centre backs should be plenty, especially with the option of recalling Hector if things really start to go wrong with injuries/suspensions, so fingers crossed we never have to ask him to play out of position.

There is only one position on the pitch where pace is less important than centre back.

And I can't see Leighterwood going in goal....

LWood fit is a better DM than Guthrie or Karacan or Williams

We need a midfield STOPPER and that he does brilliantly at this level

Not sure how many goals we've conced straight thr the middle this season
but it's clear we are wide open ATM

They used to speak English in Manchester, something seems to have gone horribly wrong - I blame the BBC .

We need a centre back that can pass comfortably , legsofwood doesn't fit that bill, for that reason I'm out

Speaking of CBs I'm sad to see Andre Bikey is without a club. He was my second love, after Jimmy. If he's still any good at all I'd have him back just for the entertainment.

Guys Im sorry but Leigertwood isn't good enough. My brother was in South Africa in April and was watching the game vs Arsenal in a pub, he said that the commentators claimed that it was "tactical suicide" to give Leigertwood the ball, and I know that was the PL but I don't rate him. Sorry :|
