Try watching the football instead. If like a little child you want to play with fireworks go and do it in your own garden.

LWJ Out of interest how does setting off a smoke bomb make an away day more fun? Especially when you set it off and then kick it down the terrace so you can't be caught.

Just gets you noticed I guess, a 'look at us' and if you sing whilst it's going off the spectacle is much more than the usual noise, you get a visual impact as well, it works much better in Europe with the big displays and everyone screaming, I'll admit it does look a little lame with one smoke bomb, but I'd love it if the full thing took off in the UK, like the Liverpool display at Fulham:

How does that Liverpool smoke bomb look good? It disrupts the game and just makes the fans look like idiots. The Yeovil bomb was okay, because it was in isolation and was dealt with quickly. I'd much prefer it if it was left for dramatic celebrations against promotion/relegation rivals.

It was before the game so no disruption there.

It's done by juvenile attention-seeking idiots.
It is disruptive, illegal, and potentially dangerous.
It has nothing to do with football.
If anyone lets one off near me I will take great delight in returning it to the perpetrator, preferably up his inadequate little arse.

Quite enjoyed them as a novelty, now they are popping up all over the place, I'm a bit unsure as to the point of them. Currently them are normally seen in singular forms as well, not in great droves like they are on the continent. It all looks a bit odd when one flare goes up.

If someone can explain the point behind them to me, I might understand it, but currently, it's totally lost on me.

There isn't a point. They've just seen the Ultra fan groups in other countries do it and copying them.

It's to try and add something to the lost atmosphere out here. It seems to be totally lost on the people on here, but people can enjoy going to a game for the atmosphere and the spectacle as well as the game. The atmosphere abroad shits all over the atmosphere over here (I'm talking generally, obviously this isn't universally true), and some, yes, generally younger, fans are trying to recapture an atmosphere over here. Rather than the intimidation of the 80's, instead the atmosphere is trying to be recreated by copying the colour and noise of our foreign counterparts. I think it is fantastic and as long as we don't adopt the guy at the front orchestrating the chants I am all for it. Atmosphere, Reading fans being a prime example, rarely exists here anymore. Yes, one smoke bomb can look a little silly, but if it really catches on, then it'll look fantastic, at least these lot are trying to do something to fix the problem.

You do realise it is against the ground regulations and you could be banned from the ground!

Nobody was kicked out against Yeovil for such an offence.

So is standing, being drunk, bringing in a flagpole, sitting in somebody else's seat, obstructing an entrance, sitting in the end allocated for opposition fans, or photographing or videoing any part of the game. Why so precious about flares?

But he improves the all important atmosphere more than someone letting off a smoke bomb surely?

I've got no idea how a flare which has never been around in England can be claimed to be claiming back lost atmosphere. If you want to improve the atmosphere, start chants, stand up and make noise. If people don't join in, carry on anyway.

Spot on. And people do join in if they know you will sing non stop.

I do start chants, stand and sing and what do I get 90% of the time? 'Sit down' or something like that. Do I continue? Yes. Does it improve the atmosphere? No. People, especially at our club, are not interested in standing or making noise.

Lack of other clubs in the area aside, it's difficult to imagine choosing Reading as your team if that's the matchday experience you crave TBF.

Supporting Reading sucks if you want an atmosphere, let's be honest.

You need to take some games as a neutral and you'd realise that things are actually a lot better here than you give them credit for.
