windermere_royal two defeats on the trot. won`t be long before they turn on him

Some already have. There's 'fans' asking others to give him more time, tonight.

Maguire 7 pts in a week whilst having the least possession in all three games. Well I never.

What's great is now Adkins is allowing us to be slightly more pragmatic and direct, whilst still focussing on ball retention and defensive shape. He is learning to compromise between his vision of how he wants us to play, and the reality of how we can achieve results.

It might not be pretty, but if it works then great.

Funnily enough our last manager had that philosophy too. They are clearly not as different as some people like to make out.

Except he didn't - our passing game under him was atrocious.

That is Adkins style, not an adaption to it! That's how Saints played in the Championship and League 1, but with 4-4-2.

Agree Joe

A good manager, who like Nigel, inherited a team that needs sorting out.

I hope that he gets all the time that he deserves

Funny how our best player this season so far couldn't get in Brians team last season. Brain was too faithful and he shot him self in the foot.

It's all about passing it at the right times.

Under Brian when we scored we just kept going full speed always there to be exposed.
Under Adkins we try and pass to take the sting out of the game.

Anyway the passing is so much better under Adkins.

Problem was that he was toss when he played and he only played when he bothered to turn up to games.

Guthrie should be pulling the strings in this division and whilst it took him a while to get into the game against Leeds he has generally played well so far.

Thing Is hes good enough to build a team around at this level. He just wasn't good enough to do so in the prem.

That's a little unfair to Guthrie who was told to hit it long all the time, which isn't his game. I don't care if you're David Beckham, most long balls come straight back at you.

I actually think he would do fine in the Prem.

More than any other role in a team, the playmaker is dependent on what the other players to do perform. If they're showing no movement into space, everything's static and you're being bypassed from defence to attack, it doesn't matter how good you are, you're not going to perform very well.

Guthrie's now playing his natural game, with support from his team mates. Something he was told not to do by McDermott and something he didn't really get from his team mates last season. We're also mainly playing three in midfield which suits him far better. As shown by his better performances around January when we played three in midfield, which coincided with our best results that season.

Still a way to go yet though.

He wasn't told to "hit it long all the time". He wasn't forbidden from knocking it out to the wings if there was a ball on

Our game under Brian was hitting it into the channels, so that doesn't make much sense. In any case, he's a decent player, he buys time and helps control the pace of the game, which we didn't utilise last season and we should have done. He can do that in the Premier League as long as his manager allows him to.
