Interestingly ,for whatever reasons, only 2 of those signed during the 2 previous seasons started the game v Leeds, 3 if you include Kelly whom you omitted.

And could, perhaps, be why we're focusing our resources into the Academy?

So. Any of you knee-jerking, where's-the-money-gone, incompetent-transfer-window, impatient, whining cock-ends got anything to say now we've brought in two quality players within a few weeks of the window closing and picked up 7 points out 9?

I've been thinking this but haven't said anything about it.. I noticed Reading4eva managed to be as negative as one could about Pogs performance last week but theres been significantly less DoomMONGering..

To be honest, I don't think the addition of two quality players now makes the second half of the last transfer window, and all of the previous window, any more competent.

I don't think there's any question that the past few transfer windows haven't been able to deliver all the players we needed and it's an area that he club need to improve. But the difference this time, is that we've been able to rectify that situation.

Whilst some can bemoan the second half of the summer transfer window, they should at least give credit where it is due for finding a solution.

And as for the 'where's all the money?' gang, there are a myriad of reasons why a transfer may not happen, it's not just down to the money.

If you look at the transfer windows since we came in Anton's not done too badly at all. First one he brought in Jason Roberts along with other lower profile signings which were key in promotion. Summer 2012 we brought in Pogrebnyak who had far higher pedigree than anyone we'd signed previously, Guthrie who's been our player of the season (not Anton's fault the old manager was clueless as a coach), Shorey who was a club favourite, Gunter who at one time was very highly rated, Mariappa and Taylor. That's far more than last time we went up under Madejski. Brian screwed up the January window and put all his eggs in one basket with Sigurdsson so again you can't blame the owner as the funding was clearly there as Spurs have confirmed.

Moving onto this window, we moved on too very overrated players for a profit and then made 5 top quality signings for the Championship (albeit 2 shorter term and later). I really don't get how you can level any criticism at the owner when we've got one of the top couple of squads in the division in terms of quality and depth.

Because what the club said and what the club ended up doing were different. Our sales left us short of cover which we have been forced to turn to short term options to fix which, if prove to be as successful as we need them to be could easily join other clubs.

We are still light in defence, still lack an attacking midfielder currently being forced to play a winger in the hole, and there are still questions over whether we have enough permanent quality up front. We had the tail end of last season and the summer to assess and bring in what we needed, were repeatedly told 6 or 7 new players would be brought in and have been let down, a feeling which has been reinforced by the managers disappointment.

Personally, I don't think we have done bad this window, but there is certainly fair game for criticism.

Is a freebie not permanent, then?

If you're gonna split hairs. Technically no player ever signs permanently.

But whether Baird stays beyond January will be a decision made between him and the club.

We've signed 5 players and retained 2 who looked to be off for certain. There's your 7. Ambition kept, albeit with more difficulty and delay than intended.

The defence is fine. The attack is fine.

Shove it up your bumhole.

I'm not sure we're light in defence.
We've got good cover for every position, what more do you want ?
