I have a feeling Adkins will revert back to a 4-5-1/ 4-3-3 formation, sitting back and hitting them on the break.

McCarthy

Gunter
Pearce
Morrison
Bridge

McCleary
Williams (if not fit, Akpan in)
Guthrie
Baird
HRK

Pogrebnyak

Subs: Federici, Gorks, Kelly, McAnuff, Akpan/Obita, Le Fondre, Sharp

I can see an argument for starting almost anyone depending on the formation variant. Obviously some of the team picks itself.

McCarthy
???
Bridge
Pearce
Morrison
Guthrie
Baird
??
??
??
Pogrebnyak.

But any of Kelly, Gunter, Robson-Kanu, McCleary, McAnuff, Drenthe, Williams, Le Fondre and Sharp could fill out the remaining places depending on position if fit. You could probably add Blackman to that list too, although I'd rather not.

I'd assume Hal would be in given he's scored in the last game, but that hasn't helped ALF in the past. I think we've missed Drenthe's mercurial talent a little, although HRK and McCleary haven't exactly done badly. I think we may have struggled a little switching back to 2 in midfield to accomodate ALF and that may change. Although with a 4-3-3 he might still get in but shifted wider a la Watford. Although that leaves Drenthe, Robson-Kanu and McCleary fighting for one spot, with competition from Blackman and McAnuff too, although they could also play elsewhere.

I think the key may well rest on the fitness of Williams and McAnuff. If they're not ready for a full match, then I think we may stay with 4-4-2. If one or both are fit, then it gives us enough for three in midfield whilst still having cover on the bench in the form of Akpan.

As Nigel often adapts his teams to the opposition I think he may revert to playing just the one up with (if fit) Jobi playing wide left to try and stop Trippier getting forward.
HRK can't do that job nor can McCleary or Drenthe so it will be interesting who he goes with.
Both of the Burnley strikers are on fire so it seems likely that he will try to stop the production line.

I like it except 1) Kelly>Gunter at RB 2) this will be too attacking a formation away to burnley

As others say I think we may have to go 4-5-1 or something to stop their strikers getting provision.

This will be a very tough game and I think we need to be cautious

What do we think Obta, HRK or McAnuff in the middle? Based on recent fitness issues at least two of these are likely to be subbed at some point. Chance for Jake Taylor?
