At just shy of three years, Mowbray was the longest serving manager in the Champo too. Tough league to manage in.

Palace call a news conference at 1730...

Is it bye bye, Ollie?

The problem is, in most cases, that a manager that is good enough to get a club out of the Championship is immediately up against it in the PL.

The step up is so vast for the players that they need to get a significant number of players, they may or may not gel straight away and even if they do they are unlikely to be strong enough players to make a material difference. Add to that the fact that sometimes you can get undone by a flash of brilliance, even when you're playing very well and winning (or two flashes of brilliance in Palace's case) and it's a recipe for a long, hard and usually fruitless season.

It's simply a matter of luck (and a little bit of scouting  ) that someone like Michu gets picked up by one of the 'lesser' clubs and has a dramatic impact.

All that is particularly so for the club that goes up via the play-offs. They might as well sack the manager that wins the play-offs straight away.

Now someone will remark that Swansea and West Ham haven't gone that way, but they tend to be the exception rather than the rule.

Speaking before the game at Selhurst Park (Fulham), Parrish had told BBC Radio 5 live that Holloway's position was secure.

Resigned?

He was never going to do any better than delay their relegation, and hard to see anyone else making a better job of it. Their summer transfer dealings were crazy and I think Holloway is probably a man out of time. You can only get results by being a bit crazy for so long....

Sunderland and Palace have, after 8 games, the same number of points combined as we did last season after 8 games...............

What odds would I get on Sunderland surviving? They have one point so far.

Palace have zero chance IMO. Alas.

There have been bad teams in the prem before but I can't remember a year when two totally inept teams have featured?

No surprise that people will smh at Holloway's departure btw, the bloke is a poor manager, just because he trots out humorous bumpkin aphorisms doesn't mean he has any talent at all. Or as Winston Wolf famously said "just because you are a character, it doesn't mean you have character"

Bloody madness. he gets them up against all the odds, then loses his job already, footballs gone mad, what did Parish expect, a f*cking champion league position?

Palace were 4th when he joined last year, hung on to 6th despite only winning only 2 of the last 18 games. His overall record is P46 W14 D14 L18. Hardly going to be enough to stay up or build a team to come back with that record.

Bar a very well managed play-offs he's been shocking there including signing more players than he could actually fit into the squad. Not surprised he's gone.

He wasn't sacked, Parish has apparently been in talks with him since Monday to try and convince him to stay at the club. Pulis now favourite to take over.

and was only just on Talksquawk before the Fulham game, saying that Ollie was the man for them and it would be senseless to get rid of him.

All he's done is keep his CV looking good - he would have been sacked at some point this season

Holloway basically saying he hasn't the stomach for the fight after eight games is going to resign him either to a life of managing outside the top flight or jacking it completely and get a job for the boys no stress pundit job in the media.

I suppose at least he doesn't have to shuffle along to the post match interviews saying we move on most weekends.
