Mourinho is another good example. Why does he work well at Chelsea? Because they know what people say about them, they know that people think they don't belong and that they're just a nouveau riche club waltzing into the top four thanks to an Obligarch. Mourinho is popular there not just because of results but because he creates an us against the world atmosphere that plays against those perceptions and people can relate to that. He was popular and worked well at Inter by creating the same atmosphere because they feel like the underdog against Milan.

He wasn't popular at Madrid because they think of themselves as the establishment club, with a Royal seal and that they are above the sort of behaviour he exhibits. The only people he was popular with there were the Ultras which isn't surprising as they feel marginalised by the club and believe the club see them as an embarrassment who bring the reputation of the club down.

paultheroyal So in summary a resounding vote of confidence for Nigel Adkins from HNA!

I have no doubt at all that the haters will find a argument against this resounding vote of confidence

51% of those polled like the manager.
I would say that's probably the lowest likability rating a Reading manager has had for quite some time.

Can't stand the guy, just comes across as a total bellend. Don't have much interest in the team in general this season tbh, not sure if it's because of Adkins or just because it all seems a bit more soulless than it did under Coppell, McDermott etc.

Still, I don't need to like Adkins as long as he does a good job and he's doing okay so far.

No issues with Adkins, good record and will do well for us, given the support and backing from Zingarovich, that though is where his desires to stay and build an attractive ball playing side might fall down. But as the manager Adkins a big yes, top man.

Not all that keen on Atto myself, though as others have said, don't need to like the bloke as long as he gets some success for the team.

It would be nice to like SOMEONE though wouldn't it? What with HRKs and Pearce's sense of self worth, Guthrie's refusal to play, Pog's premiership sabbatical at our expense, Jason Roberts' farcical 'injury, the board's ridiculous 'we looked at a player' press release on transfer deadline day - its really hard to muster up some enthusiasm for the club, tbh. I'm of the opposite view - McDermott was rubbish in the premiership but he was the only likeable thing about the club. Not quite sure that taking him away and replacing him with yet another person we can relate to is such a great idea for a sports team.

I like Nigel,

I particularly enjoy the disdain that he gets from certain members of HNA?

Big like for Nigel. I find that it's just a few mongs on here who feel the need to slate. Oh yeah, can someone post a thread on how much they like Dellor? I think Dellor is an absolute tool. He's the reason why people don't like Nigel.

I don't mind him, much like I didn't mind Mcdermott before he'd not achieved anything with us.

It'll turn to like/dislike and will be variable based on whether he is delivering what I expect or not.

I neither like nor dislike the guy but it is diificult to warm to him, and see him as totally RFC, when he was managing one of our main rivals so recently.

Who do we think is Reading through and through in our set up any more? Maybe Feds, Pearcey, Macarthy Macd but thats about it. Adkins feels a bit transient. After 50 years of watching I think this is the first time I've felt like this

McDermott had achieved a reasonable amount at Reading before taking over as manager, I might suggest.
Rodgers and Pardew, I would argue, also started their tenure on a positive approval rating due to previous involvement with the club.

No mention of Karacan?
Joined the club ~ the same age as Pearce and has played more games.
Joined the club at a younger age than McCarthy and has played many more games.

Broken many bones playing for the club. Nearly always the hardest worker.

Yes, he does it for the love of the club, not the thousands he's being paid
