Royalee Officially bored with our fans. Total non-story and Adkins is perfectly within his rights to put Akpan in his place given he made his feelings public. I think we should sack our fans for being shit.

Couple this to everything Wycombe Royal has said on this thread, and you have perfect /thread material.

Move along now please.

Rarely post on the team bored and haven't read the last few pages, but; fair play to Adkins

Someone needs to tell these pcunts that their best might not be good enough. If they give their best (which perhaps they have in training or whatever or they didn't at all) and they still can't make the grade then their chances might be better off elsewhere.

Fukk Akpan, he's shite.

Whats the issue here, Nigel Adkins was asked his opinion over Akpans comments, and he gave an honest answer, quite refreshing for to read a straight answer from someone at the club! as for Akpan why on earth we got him when we were in the Prem only McD and Hammond can answer that one, he was never going to be the answer in the top league and hasn't set the championship alight either. Blackman has had his fair amount of critisism on match threads here and isnt by any stretch of the imagination a "goal machine" but he just gets on with it works hard, and it would seem, accepts his position, and through his eforts he may well eventually break through and become a success at the Mad Stad, take note Hope !!

And this thread shows me exactly why I don`t come to the team board so much these days, an over reaction of the highest order, and for big foot, just piss off ok.

Jem Karacan - a keen and regular player - suffered a serious leg injury which will keep him out of playing for a while.
Instead of leaving him out in the cold, Nigel Adkins had him seated near to him on the bench at the next game, keeping him involved.
In my opinion, that was an example of excellent player management.

Big Foot
Hoop Blah
Big Foot Totally out of keeping of the Reading way of doing things, sack him now. I bet Nigel Howe is seething - and rightfully so.

I seem to remember Coppell and McDermott responding to players comments or news about them in the media as well, so I don't see it as anything too new to be honest. I'm sure Coppell had a pop at Lita on the radio once, and McDermott picked on Pearce for a few mistakes last season which I thought was quite odd at the time.

Adkins has been round the block. I'm sure he hasn't made these comments lightly and has probably had an even more frank conversation with Akpan as well. If he thinks he needs to stamp his authority on the squad at the first glimpse of players runnning to the media then so be it.

Personally I'd rather they all kept it behind closed doors but, realistically, in this day an age that's not likely I'm afraid.
BIG difference - Coppell & McDermott weren't Scummers.

Let it go big foot, let it go.

Again Akpan acknowledged in the original interview that he may have to change what he's doing so there was no need for Adkins to say he needed to "look at himself" and ask "why I'm not in the side" because clearly he is already doing that. And the comment regarding a loan move was just catty.

P!ssed Off So bloody tedious when people start the "Our fans are so shit", "this thread sums up how shit our fans are" etc.

What boat?

Anyway everyone still seems to be blaming Adkins for going public, without thinking what may gave preceded it

Prolly should stay away from the Team Board

Manager asked question by press about player. Manager answers in open and honest fashion. Manager lynch mobbed by a bunch of morons.

The whole reason there are so many disconnects between supporters and the clubs nowadays is that the supporters are treated like they're not allowed to be in the loop on anything.

Here's a thought for the morons: I wonder how many bust ups and dirty laundry issues Adkins has already dealt with behind closed doors?

And another thing, when a manager leaves a player out of the team, he's doing that for the good of the team. When a player has an outburst in the press at being left out, he's doing that purely for his own good. If that's how he wants to make his point then he's fair game for a public dressing down in my opinion.

If one of your employees does something wrong do you give him a roasting in front of the rest of the office or do you call him into your office and roast him then? A lot of managers will not necessarily have had any management training. For the argument to go public - don't forget all Akpan was saying is that he needs to play (work). I would rather have any of a squad moan that they are not playing than those that sit around just taking the wages and be content to do so.Cant see this rift being mended.

And if one of your employees was bad mouthing you loudly over the tannoy/emails, etc? Sending cuttings to the press about your company being shit and your managers being shit?

There is a big difference

Machiavelli said that the Prince has to be loved, but also feared

So a public slapping was needed to stop others acting as twats

Good argument but saying he desperate to play is hardly bad mouthing the manager. Think of Adkins response re Kebe after the Peterboro game. Just think its not that dignified. To say that probably noone will want Akpan is not going re-inspire what could be a good player. Coppell didn't get much wrong.

Publically saying that you want to leave to get that opportunity to play is pretty tantamount to bad mouthing the manager and the entire set up

Letting it go without a robust public response would be weakness

When we had Coppell we had few egos and a happier ship - we were on the up and had never been to the Prem. Once we had hit the glory land of the Prem even that ship was being rocked too - see Shorey, et al.

IIRC Coppell even slapped a few players down publicly - maybe not by name, but he damn well made sure everyone knew who he was talking about

Sorry, meant Coppell rates Akpan, and was surprised at his lack of development at Reading
