Basingstoke Town Football Club can today reveal that they are to host Reading Football Club in Barclays Premier League U.21 develpment matches. The Camrose ground will host fixtures from the prestigious development league, competitive matches run by the Barclays Premier League.

Speaking of the arrangement Basingstoke Town FC Director Lee Atkins said “We are delighted to be able to host Reading Football Club. We already enjoy a good working relationship with Reading, this allows us to take that relationship a step further and we are very excited at the prospect of having Premier League football players playing here at The Camrose. Although the league is given an under 21 title clubs are actually allowed to play up to three over-age players and an over-age goalkeeper so I’m sure that we’ll be seeing some established Premier League players as well as plenty of stars of the future coming to play at Basingstoke. We’ve worked hard as a club on this and it’s been in the pipeline for some time but as it’s governed by the Premier League we’ve had to jump through a few hoops to get it sorted. It’s going to provide the club with revenue, a lot of prestige in getting these fixtures on considering the calibre of teams that we will have visiting us and it will hopefully be a great attraction for the football fans in the town.”

Basingstoke Town manager Jason Bristow added “I think it will great for the club and the town to welcome Premier League footballers to The Camrose. Everyone has worked really hard to make this happen and I hope it will be the start of a very good relationship. We have Colin Barnes & Michael Gilkes here at Basingstoke already & they & others have further enhanced our relationship with Reading FC. These are competitive games in a league format and not friendlies so they should be really good to watch.

The fixtures are as follows;

Monday 2nd December Reading FC v Norwich City FC 7pm

Monday 16th December Reading FC v West Ham United 7pm

Monday 20th January Reading FC v Sunderland 7pm

Monday 10th February Reading FC v Manchester City 7pm

Monday 10th March Reading FC v Bolton Wanderers 7pm

All matches are priced as follows;

Adults £3

OAP’s and Under 16′s £2

Basingstoke Town FC & Reading FC season ticket holders £2

IN for a few of these.

Also, tomorrow night free entry to the Madejski for a game against QPR in the inaugural U21 cup.

^ triffic. Good to see the club taking a representative side on a regular basis to a town/area where we have always traditionally had decent support and from where we should be looking to maintain said support against the alternative attraction of Premier League football 30-miles or so further down the M3.

NOT IN due to logistical/geographical reasons, but this > playing at Hogwood or Arborfield or wherever or even a 2pm Tuesday afternoon kick off at the Madejski.

Good news though, especially given his form this season, at least we'll be avoiding an Ikpeazu situation come the summer.

After leaving because he's behind Samuel and possibly Ugwu in the pecking order for our youth/reserves, let alone the first team, Watford handed a debut to their star youth striker the other day, Bernard Mensah. Their striker Tom Hitchcock is class, he scored the winner for their first team v Ipswich on his QPR debut, ex-Watford and Blackburn developmental player and had first team experience at Plymouth in 2011. He left Watford's academy as his dad moved north, he stayed north when his dad moved back down here until Blackburn cancelled his contract last year and QPR signed him. He's the son of Kevin Hitchcock, QPR goalkeeping coach.

3-1 commanding performance until final 20 when they relaxed

In light of all the current doom and gloom apparent from RFC 'fans', the youngsters gave QPR a footballing lesson tonight with a very impressive 3-1 win.
Although work commitments meant I missed the start, make no mistake, our youngsters played well tonight.

Great stuff. Decent turnout of supporters. Bodes well, hopefully, for future years.

Feedback on individual players would be very much appreciated from those dedicated souls who braved the cold. Full respect to all 800 of you, that's a pleasanty surprising turn out.

Tanner, Taylor and Kuhl stood out for me.

Kuhl got booked for what looked a completely legal tackle on Diakite, hence the shit ref comments.

Good footballing performance tonight. Back four looked comfortable on the ball, especially both full backs. Cooper is huge aswell! Midfield were much better going forward then backwards with Some neat football played by tshibola inperticular. Tshibola also looks like he has a good frame but needs to work a bit harder. I think kuhl also looked very comfortable and happy to take the ball of the back 4. Disappointed with d'ath and Samuel, the later not seeing much of the ball but when he did get it lost it too easily. Tanner always looked a threat going forward and deserved his 2 goals, his 2nd showing great feat with an emphatic finish. Most of the players could do with going out on loan and playing week in week out, probably at a decent league 1 level if there ambitious enough.
