Not the first time he's done it, although he somehow managed to set up a goal with it last time.

Awful game and performance from Reading.

I presume Le Fondre is shagging Adkins' mrs as that's the only explanation for bringing Blackman on instead of Le Fondre. Surely?

Have a think ....

Maybe Adkins was not looking for another goal and was looking to keep the lead he had.
Blackman is better equipped at keeping hold of the ball and running the channels to relieve the defence and run the clock down.

As much as we all love alf try to look at the bigger picture instead.
If we were 1 nil down do you think he would of put Blackman on instead of alf? prob not

Lickily for us they had James Vaughan out injured, otherwise I reckon it would have been another Sheffield Wednesday.

Its interesting how we keep saying "yeah we won but only because the opposition couldn't finish/were rubbish/etc".

Perhaps the way we play makes the opposition unable to finish?

It's getting beyond a coincidence that we play 'badly' but keep winning...

If you don't like Blackman then fair enough but at least get it right. He came on and chased the ball, done some neat flicks past some Uddersfield players. Give the guy a break the hate for him & other players is getting pathetic.

Fewer shots - you'd definitely have a point
Same number of shots but fewer on target - possibly have a point

other than that, its not down to us, surely, and when a team starts taking advantage of it, we're going to get a hiding or two.

Blackman over Alf is exactly the same decision McDermott used to make two years ago when he'd bring Church on instead of Alf when we were winning.

Amazed that people who have obviously watched us a lot over the years can't work that decision out. You might not agree with looking tosettle for one nil and trying to hold out rather than going for the killer goal, but I don't see how you can watch football for years and not understand that substitution.

Reading this thread you wouldn't think we won the game - quite honestly I don't understand what people expect - total football when we are missing 4 central midfielders and 2 key defenders?

We were playing a mid table side away in good recent form (three wins from 4) and who beat Burnley in last home game

As for the argument the opposition were poor I think that has been said on every BFTG thread this season.

Also seem to remember we won more than our fair share of games like this when we went up the other year....

More points on the board but for some reason our fans once again looking to explain it on poor opposition and luck.

Same luck that won us the title two seasons ago?

Makes me think Reading fans have esteem issues. Will we ever win a game through stopping the opposition scoring and scoring goals ourselves? Or are we the luckiest team alive who's ever point is a fluke?

Seriously, what type of football or performance will ever be good enough to get a nod of appreciation from our fans? Its like we turn up expecting to play like Barca.

We are Reading. In the championship. Playing Huddersfield. The football you see is the football this league produces. Until we splurge money on better players and are pushed by better opposition, I'm afraid you are all going to have to accept second-rate football from a second-rate team in a second-rate league.

Reality bites.

Seems to me that you were introducing your own post with that opening comment! Of course how you play can influence how the opposition finish 'simple' opportunities. If all of your players have been really quick to close opponents down throughout the game then that will be playing on their mind. The ball might fall to a striker with an easy opportunity to convert but if he is expecting a player to challenge at any moment he is far more likely to snatch at a shot/mistime a header. Likewise, if your keeper has been playing an absolute blinder that is likely to have a pyschological effect on opponents - add to that the same keeper standing big or closing quickly at the right time and again simple opportunities appear to be less so.

Fully agree. It seems to me that because Adkins talks attractive football and comes to us with a reputation for producing it, some of our fans aren't prepared to let him 'win ugly' in the way that we did so often under McDermott.

Dear Lacoste

Ben's videos are GR8 and if you tried to bum him with a camera we'd all be jolly shocked and probably try and stop you after a bit.

LOL at spending months hailing Adkins as the saviour of football and hyping his "more attractive" game and then complaining when people point out that we are playing shit and have actually gotten worse. You made a rod for your own backs, deal with it.

I couldn't give a shit who is in charge. Its the same team with the same level of (non) investment with a slightly different man in charge with a slightly different gameplan.

Is it wrong for people to be optimistic about a new managers ethos? To believe that, having tried one way perhaps another way might see us better set for premier league survival? That to change may take time? That fifth is a pretty decent position to be in and that the team could still come together at somepoint in the future?

Why are people so aggressive about it? Because one or two tossers who should mean nothing to anybody, said some shit about McD? That has had such an impact that you would cheer your teams failure and snipe anybody who looks at the situation rationally and patiently?

Must be pretty sad to let idiots inspire such bitterness and disloyalty, and have your opinion completely controlled by your dislike of anonymous people in the internet. My sympathies.

Good win, needless to say I cba to go but I hear it was pretty grim. Lucky for us that Hudds had Vaughan missing. 3 of the next 4 (Wigan, Leicester, Forest) against some of the strongest teams in this division, if we're still 5th (or higher) after that little lot then fair play.

Thanks for your sympathies E-P.

Next time take on board the comment and acknowledge the fact that people, in football and life in general, are going to question something if it's been hyped and failed to deliver on the expectation. Whilst you were criticising others you seemed to be simultaneously doing exactly what you accuse them of doing and letting the thoughts of "anonymous people on the internet" get to you.

As much as it will hurt your ego I don't really care what you or the other "anonymous people on the internet" think about Nigel Adkins as I just don't like him or his personality regardless of what those people have said previously about Brian McDermott.

My sympathies.
