Ok, so he's not played for a season and a half.

You carry on praying his wages

We are contractually obliged to do so, why are you so interested in this? Don't Chelsea pay Torres upwards to £200,000 a week for him not to turn up.

28 goals for Torres last season. 7 so far this season.
1 European cup
1 FA Cup
1 UEFA cup

A slightly bigger contribution than the righteous and holy Mr Roberts.
yes and?

So, Jason's now been injured for over a year and approaching 36 years of age. No word on any comeback any time soon.

Roberts will milk the club for all he can get this season, never play again and retire in the summer.

Why pay him off? What would that accomplish?

Sorry, still don't get it. We wouldn't save any cash by paying off a contract. What have I missed?

The worth and saving of paying him off would depend on how much of his contract worth we'd have to agree to pay and how the terms of that are influenced by whatever insurance we have.

There will be other costs, both financial and otherwise, associated to him still being around that we would probably rather not incur but I'd assume the club are covering all angles and both protecting an asset as well as looking to get the best return on the money we're spending. At the same time Roberts will be looking after number one, understandbly, but I do wish we could just get rid as soon as possible.

If I were Jason Roberts i'd not accept anything less than 100% of my contract paid off, and as long as a specialist says that he'll be fit one day i doubt that any insurance would pay out anything to RFC.

For all we know he could be a great influence on the other injured players in the gym, he's practice for the physios, and if nothing else he can keep Jem Karacan company.

Yep, not sure why Roberts gets all the abuse tbh. The club were daft enough to give him a option in his contract, so have to pay the penalty.

This is why we previously had a policy of never giving over 30's more than a 12 month long deal.

It would have been sanctioned by our (then) new young owner to say "thank you" to Jason

That's the nature of contracts; both sides have to abide by them.

It is usually a win/win for both parties but every so often their are a few situations that make you go

Man City still paying Adebayor £40,000 a week even though he has been a Spurs player for ages.

And of course, Chelsea still paying Di Matteo £120,000 a week.

Anyone thought that the doctors/physio may have been telling him that he has a chance of coming back from this injury?

would much rather give it your all trying a final recovery than retire and wonder what if

He might be able to earn more by giving up his futile pretence of getting fit, taking a reduced pay off but then being able to walk (or hobble) into more media commitments or something else.
