The actuality is that until a new owner is sorted out, Reading will be operating on a basis where neither Zingarevich nor Madejski will invest any money. With effectively joint owners now that the full Russian takeover is off the table, why would Madejski invest money that was not being matched. For some time Madejski has been viewing an exit and the last thing he is likely to do is put more money in. The reality is he has not put money in for years and not unreasonably took money out during the first Premiership stay. The question is then whether the club is running at a loss or not. As previously stated the general way the club is run would indicate that there is not a significant loss going on. However, the club is clearly preparing for McCarthy to leave. This will presumably shore up the cash position. The club website is operating with its usual Pravda-like balance in somehow equating the value to the club of McCarthy and Federici, bigging up all the other goalkeepers and quoting Adkins as saying that he will be happy if one of them is still at the club at the end of January, as though that would be a an excellent development. This all leads to the inevitable conclusion that a consistent message is being portrayed by the various club mouthpieces and McCarthy is on his way.
