Did I read someone say the players had been told about the takeover before the game on Sat? Certain I read something.
The takeover that clearly hadn't happened it would seem.

It's only Wednesday. There was no 'this week' timescale for sure, just a rumour. Like this section suggests.

Not necessarily - the announcement to the players might have been little more than "We've agreed the takeover, we'll be strengthening the side in January and still expect to push for promotion"...

As people have pointed out, we might not want to show our hand too early in the window, it might inflate sellers expectations in terms of price we're prepared/able to pay for any targets.
We might also be waiting for the new owner to clear some space in his diary to attend a press conference - I suspect that SJM has learnt from the TSI affair where he made a brief press statement on 20th Jan, but with nobody knowing who TSI were, and what it meant for the club, there was a lot of speculation, not just on here but also in the wider press. I suspect this time, particularly given that it seems to be a deal for 100% of the club, the whole affair will be a bit slicker.

I guess, what I'm trying to say is that there could be a number of reasons why the deal has not been announced yet, the club will have their reasons, and we'll just have to be patient....

Our substantial £600k bid led people to believe that there was no way we'd be able to splash that kind of money around, unless the takeover had happened.

I think that was just an invented rumour by someone - i.e. wishful thinking ...

Reading FC takeover race swings towards Oman

Investors from Arab state hoping to see off rival interest from American consortium

Anton Zingarevich is looking to sell his majority share in Reading. Anton Zingarevich is looking to sell his majority share in Reading.

Talks to takeover Reading by investors from Oman have reached an advanced stage.

The Reading Post understands the group behind the bid for the club have the backing of some of the Arab state’s Royal family.

The Omani FA (OFA), who Reading have strong links with, are helping progress the talks but are not thought to be involved in the consortium itself.

There has been speculation that a deal has been agreed, but sources inside the club deny this and do not expect anything to be concluded this week.

Similar to a rival bid from an American consortium , the offer on the table from Oman is for 100 per cent control, not just Anton Zingarevich’s 51 per cent share.

Reading have built up links with Oman in recent years and are partners with the OFA in the Kickworldwide Outreach Programme in Sohar.

Oman: Five things a Reading FC fan should know about the Gulf state

They hosted the national side in an international friendly match at Madejski Stadium in September and the Post understands another game is scheduled for this summer, if a date can be agreed.

Delegates from Oman have been at several Reading games this season, most recently the 2-1 defeat by Wigan on December 21.

Speculation that a takeover deal is close increased after Reading bid £600,000 for Hull City defender Jack Hobbs on Friday.

Oman: Five things a Reading FC fan should know about the Gulf state

Just 24 hours earlier, Royals boss Nigel Adkins had hinted he would not be able to do any transfer business until the club’s ownership issues had been sorted.

“Things are going on behind the scenes and we need to let the hierarchy sort it out,” he said.

“Until it’s organised we have to wait patiently.

Really helpful story that. Starts off by saying that AZ is selling his majority shareholding (i.e. 51%) with no mention of SJM's 49%. Then half way through the story it goes on to say that the offer is for the whole 100%.
