Tbf they've still got to agree personal terms with the player and they've accepted our offer as well. If SJM had mouthed off in the way the Forest chairman has, he could have said exactly the same thing, but not his style.

Dunno what all the fuss is about anyway.

Surprised we went in for him. He's not *that* good; injury prone; probably only marginally better than what we already have (although that's up for grabs too) and questionably worth paying £600K for.

We move on.

I don't think we did. We certainly didn't speak to Hobbs (Charles Watts confirmed yesterday and no mention he was down today). If Hobbs had the choice of two clubs, he'd listen to both even just to get Forest to push up their wages for him.

Whatever the truth is, three clubs are happy tonight:

Hull - Wage off the books 6 months early, £600k in the bank as well, offer for Shane Long reportedly accepted
Forest - They keep their captain, but at a price they didn't expect to have to pay
Reading - Sell-on clause coming their way for Long's move to Hull

I'm glad we haven't got Hobbs. That knee will never last a career. It will go again, it's just a matter of when, and we don't need that here. Too risky!

Nottingham Forest chairman Fawaz Al Hasawi claims he has agreed a deal with his Hull City counterpart to sign defender Jack Hobbs. Hull boss Steve Bruce revealed earlier on Tuesday that Reading were trying to sign Hobbs and had tabled an offer for the 25-year-old. Hobbs is currently on loan at Forest, but Hull could recall him and sell him to Reading, but Forest are hoping to beat their Sky Bet Championship rivals to the former Liverpool man's signature.

I'd have rather had Long joining us this season than pick up a relatively small amount of money from a sell-on clause!

Clueless why Longy would want to go to Hell, I mean Hull anyway, but anybody any idea what the sell on amount/clause is anyway?

Forest fans seem to think they've won the European Cup. They'll have to ask their elders how that felt, as none of their new generation have seen any success, barely even Premier League football.

Not bitter then???

TBH not fussed about this, dodgy knees, never done it in the prem (yes yes I know we're not in the prem yet, but Hull let him go for a reason)

Rather we spent the money somewhere else.

He's a very good defender, and it's a shame we're missing out on him.

Lascelles is better than Hobbs anyway. Maybe we should make a cheeky bid for him instead?

Steve Bruce has handled this situation brilliantly imho; he doesn't see Hobbs as part of his plans, and knows that the lad appears happy at Forest, who, knowing he is out of contract at the end of the season are prepared to sit and wait for the player in order to get him for free come 1st July......then in come Reading with a genuine bid for a player that we felt would be of benefit to the team.

Rather than keep it quiet, Bruce publicises the fact in order to put pressure on Forest to either stump up the cash or lose out on a player they (and their fans) want; a week later, Bruce gets £600K and a wage off the books as a player he didn't want/need is gone. Ker-ching.

The losers here are Forest; they have had to fork out £600K + extra wages + signing on fee for a player they fully expected to get for free (minus the signing on fee) in 6 months time.

As for us, we identified a player we thought would add to our team, made a bid but lost out; happens all the time and to pretty well every club - doesn't demonstrate anything about the state of the club, the buyout or any of the other myriad of conspiracy theories being bandied about by posters who have had too many e Numbers in their school dinners recently.

So when will this be officially confirmed?
There's nought on the NFFC OS or the BBC confirming he has signed for Forest.
All we have is a tweet from an under pressure Chairman.
Bruce made our interest public (presumably) because he wanted more than a 'pre-contract agreement' from Forest for the lad. Fawaz's tweet amounts to no more than that.
Has Bruce softened his stance?
As for RFC getting the best of this - how do we know that Hull are paying more for Long than we got from WBA for him?

Who says that Forest have to match our offer? Surely Hobbs can just not agree terms with us and sign on a free anyway. All Hull can do is recall and bench him, so Forest just have to agree a figure with Hull that stops them doing that which could for example be 6 months wages less than £600k.
