Transfer news: Wigan open contract talks with Reading and QPR target Ben Watson
Wigan have opened contract talks with FA Cup hero Ben Watson to ward off interest from other clubs.

Sky Sports understands Wigan have begun negotiations over a new deal for Watson, with his current terms due to expire at the end of the season.

Watson, who scored Wigan's winner in their famous FA Cup final succees over Manchester City last season, is thought to be attracting interest from a number of sides, including Reading and Queens Park Rangers.

The Championship duo are both actively monitoring Watson's situation and are ready to test Wigan's resolve to hang onto the player in this month's transfer window.

The 28-year-old joined the Latics from Crystal Palace in January 2009 and has established himself as a key player at the DW Stadium, with manager Uwe Rosler keen to keep hold of him.
