soggy biscuit Guthrie is a true footballer of the modern era. His shocking passing and almost slow motion play goes completely completely unnoticed by young folk who are much more wowed by his haircut, tattoos and (probably) tweets/facebooking

Well put!

Surely no one can have anything against Jake Taylor?

Don't see what any of the fuss is about. Looks exceedingly League 2 to me...but other than that, can't say he offends me.

I like him but I think he played one season too many for us and he shouldn't get near the side again.

Floyd Doesn't like anyone does he?

You might want to see a doc about that. Could prove embarrassing as you get older.

paddy20 I would suggest the next time Guthrie plays keep an eye on what he does. I have done this for the last 3 home games and was surprised at how little he offered. I was a fan of his but I think he as they say he ' flatters to deceive'. He passes back a lot to the centre halves. He passes sideways. He does about 3 long passes to the wings. He passes twice into the front players but either they or he are not on the same wavelength. He loses his marker on a number of occasions. He rarely tackles. He has less than one shot on goal per game. He looks comfortable when in possession. He slows the game down when in possession.

I thought it would be interesting to see how the team plays without him. Q.E.D

Yep, did exactly the same against Wigan. He made three forward passes in the first half. He is so slow as well. Doesn't anticipate the second ball, doesn't track his runners. However, he was really good in the first couple of months when he had someone doing all the water carrying for him. Would like to see him play further forward, but now really understand why he didn't fit in with what McD wanted from him

Once teams figured out that everything went through him (Millwall sticking Nadjim Abdou on him all game was the first time he was man marked IIRC, and he was pretty dire), his effectiveness has decreased.

He was POTM for the first two months on The Tilehurst End (as voted by some of you hopefully  ), yet in December posted the worst average player ratings of all regular starters.

Think he's a player who is a luxury for this level, but doesn't have the class/bustle for the next, hence why Newcastle let him go and didn't retain him as a squad player.

I know football fans are fickle but the reason he was player of the month for the first two months was because he deserved it. However he has gone drastically off form and arguably been our worse player for the past two months. His confidence looks shattered and he's taking so much time on the ball before being hustled off it, that it's reminiscent of Leigertwoods struggles in the premierleague. For me it's the absence of Karacan thats unnerved him, he used to be an outlet for the easy ball. Without Karacan (or indeed baird) Guthries looking to keep possession himself or do a Hollywood pass.

If he went now we wouldn't miss him. But if we are building a team to go up and stay up then we absolutely must keep him and get him back to form.

However I do have a sneaking suspicion his poor form may be due to the disappearance of the owner. His large contract will no doubt be the first problem when the cash runs out....

His form drops like any footballer and suddenly our POTS isn't required anymore!

Class.

I was having this conversation the other day with a Bournemouth fan. He thought Guthrie was a class act, but I explained it was Karacan beside him which made him look good, do all the donkey work for him.

genome

lol

^ This

Guthrie is Liam Rosenior MK 2

Over hyped, with a dramatically inflated opinion of himself. I'd rip all my limbs off and crawl to Norwich on my tongue, whilst giving Guthrie a piggyback if it meant the deal could be done for him to finally fuck off.

Why all the h8 for Guthrie? He's another matejovsky - too good for the current crop of players around him, hence the way he plays doesn't fit at the moment.

If Norwich think he's good enough to play in the Prem, then we ought to hang onto him, until we know if we will have any money for NEXT season from any possible new owners - if we can buy the type of player that compliments Guthrie and lets him play to his best, we'll do ok.
