Steve Brown - The man would attempt a diving header in front of a moving train if necessary!

Steve Hetzke looked pretty tough but never did much to confirm that.

Bandini In order during the time I've been watching Reading:

1. Whitehurst
2. Hurlock
3. T8

Parky and Gooding get honourable mentions, but they were very much in the second-tier of hard men.

^ This.

Parky and Gooding were mere pussies compared to these 3.

Hunt, being the only one to reduce a top keeper to wearing a scrum cap for the rest of his natural life, deserves a nomination

Not sure you can count Bikey as hard, he was just mental.

Further nods for Hurlock, Whitehurst and Tait. Anyone remember Roger Joslyn and John 'Chopper' Chapman?

Top 3.

Has to be Friday and Hurlock. Hard as granite, and lunatics.
Then Percy Freeman. Just hard as granite.

I think it was Alan Hansen that said Billy Whitehurst was the hardest and scariest opponent he'd ever faced.

Edit: A nice summary of his style http://www.thedaisycutter.co.uk/2012/01/the-harder-they-come-big-billy-whitehurst/
