Well I live in Saudi Arabia at the moment. Whilst Oman is a bit more liberal than it is here in the Kingdom I would not recommend a trip to the ME during Ramadan (July) where everything is closed except at night. Also it will be about 50 degrees! There will be no preseason trip to Oman. Maybe in January or something or a short trip (maybe international break Feb) but July.. forget it.

Better to stay at home and sit by an open oven on max.. at least you will be able to hold a bottle of booze! You will get hot and sweaty (realistic feel) but then after 5 minutes and a couple of swigs think 'bugger this' and go back to the lounge. No to the tour in July.

Having lived in both Saudi and Oman, Saudi for three years, Oman for over twenty I would say that it is like comparing chalk and cheese. Stores stay open during the day in Oman during Ramadan and though the bars on the air base closed they did open for an hour for carry outs for non-muslims. For my last eleven years I was based in Salalah and during the Khareef (monsoon) which runs from June to September the temp was usually around 30c max but it was quite damp.

Yep KSA is a different kettle of fish all together. Everything is shut during ramadan only at night do things open. At least in my case Bahrain is down the road..
