It's not really a surprise though is it. City have always been a big club, certainly in the top 10 in England, even when they slipped down to the third tier 15 years or so ago. Now with their new found riches they have moved up in to the next tier.

The FFP rules were originally designed to put an end to funds being put into clubs, wasted and then when it all goes pear shaped the debt still being payable to theose that supplied it.

By using the sponsorship route, the funds become the property of the club with no debt arising because of it. Hence, they are completely within the boundaries of the FFP rules.

Abramovich could do the same by paying his millions over as sponsorship so that he had no call on retrieving the cash - not sure that's going to happen anytime soon.

Oh, and it doesn't take an accountant to work this one out.

Oh I'm sure they are within the rules as they've had plenty of time to think of creative ways to work within them. My beef is that it's not a level playing field. Not only is the level of sponsorship being injected unrealistic in that they would find it unlikely to attract such revenues on an open market, but the main sponsors are owned by the same people. It's unjust, but then the sporting aspect of football was consigned to history when the PL was formed. If I was a Man City or Chelsea fan, victories and trophies would be leaving me with a hollow feeling. But then I don't suppose they care now that they are minted and have conveniently forgotten their constant grievance with their neighbours when they were accused of buying titles.

I hope the lot of them implode.

Leeds new owner in waiting. GFH know this and are still happy to sell the club to him, and the Yorkshire Post said yesterday McDermott would be sacked for Gianluca Festa... McDermott deserves a better club than that anyway! Still, his two pay-offs have been like a lottery win, so there is some positives for the guy.

According to David Conn and Nick Harris, Leeds are losing £2m a month in wages and massive PR/legal costs, and a further £1m a month due to:

- Don't own their training ground, rent costs
- Bates mortgaged future season tickets to finance the east stand developments,
- Bates forward-sold catering
- Bates forward-sold sponsorship
- Leeds pay rent on Elland Road
- Bates receives £1m a year over 4 years as part of his sale of the club
