I suppose their thinking is that if they can use the loan players to get them into the CL, then they can spend some money to get people in on a perm basis.

Weird goings on in Italy as it is being widely reported that Inter are pushing to take 30 year old bit part forward Mirko Vucinic from Juve (who they hate) for a str8 swap with 27 year old Fredy Guarín who is one of their better players.

Inter hardcore fans issued a statement yesterday saying they were perplexed at why they were looking to weaken their own team while strengthening their rival. Club met with fans, club agreed to call off the transfer. Now being reported that it is going through.

Yeah this. Also suggests Juve could be preparing to lose Pogba for big money to PSG or Real Madrid as has been speculated on for some time

Not really relevant, but it’s funny how different attitudes to this sort of thing exist in different sports.

In the NBA, the Eastern conference is enjoying its worst season for a generation, only 3 teams out of 14 have won more than they have lost. Reason for this is a number of teams are deliberately ‘tanking’ – whilst there is no suggestion players aren’t trying to win games, the teams have shed their best players and are playing inexperienced or rookie line-ups, in the hope of securing one of the worst records in the league this season and thereby getting first dibs in what is expected to be a very good 2014 draft. And it’s a generally accepted practice.

Chelsea Football Club can confirm an agreement has been reached with FC Basel for the transfer of their 21-year-old attacking midfielder Mohamed Salah.

The move is subject to the Egyptian international agreeing personal terms and completing a medical examination

Selling Mata and de Bruyne as they already have a wealth of attacking midfield options. Schurrle, Oscar, Willian, Hazard, Marin, Matic. Why do they need another.

Matic isn't attacking...

Interesting* posts on the Liverpool forum from someone very much ITK that lays bare how Liverpool lost out on Salah, and also how different finances affect how clubs approach transfers. Second post on this thread.

http://www.redandwhitekop.com/forum/ind ... 04864.1520

Essentially, Liverpool agreed a verbal deal with Basel, then tried to lowball it, and Chelsea have paid over the odds for him.

As to the why - let's be honest, even with Mata and Lamps gone, Chelsea have too many midfielders. Salah is considered one of the best young wingers in Europe, this is about collecting that talent, he'll probably get as 'many' minutes as Willian.

Or Mourinho is slowly starting to build "his" team....

How many of the current midfield were his signings? (genuine question)

I don't think you can say it's a pointless signing until he's actually got a few games under his belt.

De Bryune turned out to be a pointless signing. Was given a chance, didn't take it and sulked because he didn't want to be a bit part player. However, we still made a decent profit on him.
