I would have thought a London club should be in a London Borough - these will be covered by Oyster - you can you use Oyster for Watford but it is not in a London Borough

In history I believe we have played at teams such as Croydon Common, South Norwood and Corinthian Casuals so a lot depends on how far you go back

Just gonna re-write the original text - discovered I hadn't allowed for games v West Bromwich Albion or Corinthian Casuals!!

Well, just as a little taster - we've played 1874 senior games home and away against teams north of Birmingham since the start of our League career 1920-21. We have played 2509 games home and away against teams from Birmingham and all points south. Of these 2509, 519 have been against London clubs.

In 1973-4, 1974-5 and 1983-4 we didn't play a single game against a London club.

As many of us suspected, the 3 Premiership years appear in 3 of the top 4 spots, with games against 6 different London clubs. The odd one out was 1934-35, when we also played against 6 London clubs - Charlton, Crystal Palace, Millwall, Queens Park Rangers, Clapton Orient and Arsenal. We also played Luton Town and Watford but they do not fall into our category of London clubs.

The top 9 spots, where we have played 5 or more London clubs in a season are, (2012 = 2012-13 season) :

2012 - 6 teams - 14 games
1934, 2006 - 6 teams - 12 games
2007 - 5 teams - 12 games (Chelsea, Arsenal, Wet Sham, Tottenham Hotspur, Fulham)
1957 - 5 teams - 11 games
1936, 1955 - 5 teams - 10 games
1925, 2003 - 5 teams - 9 games

I thought it would have been more than 6, but apparently not.

As you only wanted games actually played up north, I will concentrate on the results of these away matches, and compare them against away matches v all teams Birmingham and south.

Will come back back with full stats tomorrow night.

Question. If you treat all of Englands teams as one big league (i.e. Leicester are currently 21st), during the last 15 years where do RFC stand? Clue:- For the last 15 years, each team gets a number at the end of the season. All are added up and the team with the smallest figure are top (probably Man Utd). Given that most of that time we have been in the top six of the Champ or, on three occassions have been in the Prem, I would see RFC in the top 24 but I have not got the figures to hand. Someone out there will have.

Also, if RFC end up in the top 24 will some of you stop this rubbish about 'Little Reading' and start expecting the buying of decent players as an obvious continuation of our move into the top flight. 'The Reading Way' can work, if you are really, really lucky, this far. To go further we need to start thinking about 'The Successful Way'.

We are 4th in the all time points total since WW2, and 49th in the league of all teams who have appeared in all seasons since WW2. I believe there is going to be an article in a forthcoming home programme about it.

Thanks Strap! Just to confirm, was Watford included as a 'London club'? Because I think we would want it to be because it is on the oyster zone, even though it's a separate town (and it was actually on the trip to Watford that the estimable London Royals first posed this question)...

Dulwich Royalers - we wanted Oyster card games as they basically count as easy ones to get to if you're based in London. The questions first came up because, for London Royals, next season could be a dream season if Fulham, West Ham, and Palace come down, and Brentford and Leyton Orient come up, giving us a potential 9 (NINE) London away league games

Thank you for the trivia so far. I've found it quite interesting. Curious to see the outcome of my hypothesis!

Interesting that only Man U, Liverpool and Arsenal have scored more goals than us in that time.

Accidently as in "Oh I didn't realise Tuesday was a day of the week"?

I'll take both.

You know it's a slow day when this kind of thing takes precedence over work deadlines.

Seeing as Steve Morrow had 2 loan spells with us, I'm starting with tomorrow

Then you have Robin Friday of course, and after that I'm stumped.

Put a West Sham supporter in a barrel and Fat Sam will lodge an appeal, if that fails he will ask the Owners to start legal action. Afterall, West Ham and their fans MUST be in the Premiership (not barrels) and the club and the FA will cheat, lie and fudge to ensure that. Pity the Disciplinary panel in the Carroll appeal did not sit when The Shams should have been relegated for cheating.

n.b Natural Justice MUST eventually prevail. The Porno Owners, Bimbo accompice and clueless Manager would grace the Championship next year - and Div 1. the season after.

Not sure if you are going to like this ....

We perform marginally better away to teams north of Birmingham than we do at teams from Birmingham south!! Very marginal, statistically insignificant, but none the less, true!!

25% wins away to Northern teams, 24.7% wins away to Southern teams.

48% defeats away at Northern teams, 48.2% defeats away to Southern teams.

Hope you can read the table - any bigger and the right hand columns disappear.

Enjoy!
