Blackburn (H) - Back from the game

by PistolPete » 22 Feb 2014 17:27

Unlucky goal conceded and then Blackburn and referee combine to create the most stop-start game I can remember. 9mins+ injury time testament to that.

General Observations:

Hope that Hope doesn't play again this season. Scared of tackling and scared of passing.

Too many long balls to Pog's head.

Macanuff must NEVER shoot again. Love the work rate but finishing is dire...

Williams, Obita and McCarthy played well.

Blackburn well organised.

Gorkss and Pearce are not good enough as a pairing.

If Akpan doesn't play for the rest of the season then that leaves his replacement today who was utter shite.

Two home games in a row where the team has collapsed at the first sign of trouble.
That trouble this week was of our own making, can't blame the ref.
Of course we can complain about a penalty not being given but we shouldn't have to rely on the ref to create a clear cut chance for us.

Pathetic!

The pro federici, anti Guthrie sentiments are so boring.

Pretty clueless against a good well organised side, very disappointed with the subs, taking off our only forward outlet and our only threat from the flanks,

People who have hardly seen a game this season and proclaim Guthrie as the Messiah because he had a couple of half decent games in September are boring pal? At least Federici has done something positive for the club and earned support.

Inept performance typified by a devastatingly poor Jobi McAnuff. I thought Akpan was poor also, and Pearce couldn't cope with Rhodes, and all too often had to resort to pulling, and again was far too close to him. This team is far too inconsistent to finish in the top six. Wigan are flying and now a game in hand will see them push us down to seventh where we will be fortunate to finish ourselves.

McCarthy - 7
Gunter - 7
Obita - 8
Pearce - 5
Gorkss - 6
McAnuff - 3
McCleary - 6
Akpan - 4
Williams - 7
Pogrebnyak - 6
Le Fondre - 6

Drenthe - 6
Guthrie - 5
Robson-Kanu - 5

A little harsh on Akpan but agree with the rest. Pearce gets too tight when defending, the sooner Morrison is back the better. Failing that, stick Hector in.

We struggle against well organised sides, especially those who just try to break up our rhythm. Adkins has got to remedy that and fast. But sod watching Blackburn every week, that archaic football might be effective from time to time, but it's God awful to watch.

Would love to see that penalty decision again, looked like a clear handball, which would've been a red. Still, we were shite after they scored.

Blackburn had a game plan & they stuck to it. Their back line was rock solid. They also used the time wasting, feigning injury, breaking up play perfectly.

People are talking about Wigan but I can see this lot making a push for 6th. They weren't pretty to watch & were dirty but it will get them points.

Worries me that we can't get back into games after going behind though.

Oh and the grotesquely fat guy in Y25 about row AA or so wearing a royal blue Adidas top shouting all sorts of obscenities all match (most of them directed at Jobi) - you sir are a cnut.

A largely forgettable season hits a new low with this terrible game, should have been 0-0. Perhaps we were a bit unlucky with the goal but our shite freekick and Gunter's half-hearted tackle in the build up were not 'unlucky'. I only bothered watching 83 minutes of this bore-fest, during which time a tame McAnuff pea-roller was our only shot on target.

Results such as this and Sheffield Wednesday sandwiching a fine win last weekend only make that QPR result seem a complete waste. And that result is put into perspective by QPR's poor recent form (defeat to Charlton today, the worst side - other than Reading - that I have seen this season).

We've now had 42 league and cup games under Adkins and managed to win from conceding the first goal only once. Not quite the tactical genius we were hoping for eh. And I am not crowing here.....I was very pleased when he was given the job. Now I'd be very pleased if it was taken away from him.

Christ, can't blame Gunts for that. Nearly stopped the goal twice after Jobi sold him short with a pass, then finished off the move nicely.

Fair enough, will watch it again later. It wasn't an out-and-out mistake as such, but he had chance to save us. And didn't manage it. 'Nearly' won the ball. 'Nearly' football, sums us up under Adkins.

Record when conceding first under Adkins:

W 1 D 2 L 17

Overall record under Adkins:

W 15 D 10 L 17

In terms of the money we must have spent in paying off the previous manager and signing this bloke up, Adkins is probably the worst signing we've ever made :!:
