Bus From The Game - Blackburn

by Ian Royal » 22 Feb 2014 17:18

Well that was frustrating. One of those games where its never going to happen and we get punished by an individual error. Credit to Blackburn they defended well, took their chance and used gamesmanship to the limit. A perfect example that we just aren't ready for promotion. But we are still one of the best sides in the division.

Ratings to follow.

Thought we were clearly the better side and didn't deserve to lose. But you don't win games if you don't score goals.

McCarthy - 8 one great save no chance with the goal
Gunter - 7 good game all round
Obita -8 defended well and went forward well
Gorkss 7 if he wasn't the one who sold Pearce short for the goal 5 if he was.
Pearce 8 good game bar a couple of hairy moments or weak passes. Almost stopped the goal twice.
McCleary 6 very quiet, barely turned up
Williams 8 great
Akpan 7 good
McAnuff 7 didn't come off for him but he gave Blackburn a torrid time and put in several decent balls. Never hid despite things not going his way and mongs in our crowd. Captain's performance
Alf 6 bright at time but not real chances
Pog 6 laboured but hard working

Guthrie 7 started really well but faded as we dot more desperate and direct
Hrk 6 ok
Drenthe 6 started dynamic and dangerous then faded miserably with some terrible set plays.

unless we get an investor, we will lose all our top players at the end of the season then we will just be another average midtable team.

Fine. But unless we get stable ownership for the club (recognizing by his own wishes SJM's time with the club is drawing to a close) we could see, I won't say endless but, a long period of decline. That might make mid table mediocrity in the Championship seem like success.

Oh dear. It was McAnuff who sold Gunter short for the goal. Gunter was the one who nearly prevented it twice. McAnuff was shocking, delivery was consistently poor and his shooting was somehow even worse than usual.

Disagree USA is spot on. It's not about having endless seasons of success it's about doing things that will see the club heading backwards. Two steps forward one step back is OK but we are at risk of reversing that.

That legendary entrepreneur Madejski has got himself and the club in a sodding great hole at present. The trouble is, his only solution is cloth cutting (he sounds like he's almost looking forward to it), which will be the equivalent of bringing a couple of JCBs in to help dig the hole quicker.

It seems that no matter how long he hangs around for he will never recognise/accept that English professional football does not and will not operate according to his Auto-Trader rules of business. Football may be a business but it is not a business as Madejski knows it.

Madejski has done a fine job. No other idiot has been stupid enough to pour millions into the black hole that is RFC.

Anton did, in the region of £40million after repaying JM loans back.

I must agree that throwing money at RFC would see us at the top table by now, damn JM and Anton for not pumping in an extra £50mill like at QPR, and Bolton, and Blackburn. Who would want to have to repay those loans from income around the £15mill mark, which is what all those three will have when the parachute money runes out.

Remind me not to use your opticians

I think it is generally agreed that MacAnuff had a day to forget, even by most of the Jobi love-in crowd

Glad to hear NA giving Jobi a bollocking toward the end of the 1st half for repeatedly ignoring Obita on the overlap.

He did. However, contrary to what the 'McAnuff is responsible for all evils brigade' would have it, he was not solely responsible for us losing three points. That was something that Mick Gooding and Adi Williams stressed after the game. Virtually every player had a poor game yesterday and that was capped by one on the worst displays of officiating (from all three officials) that we have seen for a long time.

Another point that Williams and Gooding made was that McAnuff tried really hard (perhaps too much) to make up for his mistake.

7 Top 6 finishes in the last 12 years suggest otherwise.
