I'm surprised nobody is laying in to Andre Marriner for his blatant bit of racism at the weekend

Maybe because the majority of "laying into" has been carried out by the White Victim Parade banging on about MOWO's and how all the best cleaning jobs are tokened off to niggers these days, which is okay to say because they say it to each other and I only said it to wind someone up like in sport because it's part of sport and they should get over it.

Interesting article comparing the treatment of racism in the NBA to the football world; LA Clippers owner Donald Sterling has this week been fined $2.5m and banned for life, having been recorded asking someone not to bring 'blacks' to a game or associate them with his team.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/others ... about.html

Raises some good points about the decisive action taken by the NBA commissioner, and self-indulgent tweeting that followed the Alves incident last week.

Not a great article.

80 year old with a net worth of $1.9 billion given lifetime ban and fined $2.5 million.
26 year old loses job, given lifetime ban, arrested and faces 1-3 years if convicted.

Sure have a pop at Blatter over the pitiful fines/punishments handed out for most cases of racism.
But I'm struggling to see how that particular NBA incident vs this particular football incident results in the conclusion that football is "light years behind".

I think it's fair to contrast the decisive and significant reaction to Sterling's actions with the almost apologetic approach to this issue by football's governing bodies.

I think Blatter's stance on racism, and FIFA's dealings over some of the issues we've seen over the last few years are pretty shoddy, but I don't think they quite compare with the NBA situation.

Most of the football related instances are crowd related and I can't remember an owner or someone in a similar position ever coming out with anything comparable for the FA or FIFA to stamp down on. I believe the NBA is a collection of franchises as well and so the ownership issue is a different beast there too. It's also soley controlled within their own country and their own rules, quite different to FIFA.

It would be good to see more decisive action from FIFA when they get the chance yes, and for them to be a less corrupt and useless organisation, but I just don't think it's a great comparison myself.

He was spinning that line a year ago, clearly he misses being talked about. The simple fact is there isn't enough good black managers. It's got nothing to do with colour. You can't just employ a black manager to get the quota up ffs.

I cannot commend Jason Roberts enough for the forthcoming club management role he will presumably be undertaking himself.....anything to get him off the airwaves of the tax-payer funded BBC Radio 5 Live :!:

So it's a good job neither Jason Roberts nor anyone else is saying that in this article isn't it?

To be fair to Roberts he's only commenting on the story that came out of the PFA yesterday so he's not the one that's brought it back onto the agenda.

30% BME players and only a couple of league managers they say. I notice they're still not as interested in the over representation of BME within the ranks of professional football as they are their under representation in management.

But what if there aren't any good black managers because they aren't aren't afforded the same opportunities for education and qualifications? Or what if there ARE enough good black managers but they aren't getting the jobs? I mean, as super as you are, I'm not overly confident you have sat in every post-interview board meeting, assessed the candidates yourself and examined in depth the reasoning behind the successful and unsuccessful applications.

Otherwise kinda what you are saying is "black people just don't make as good football managers". Which seems absurd, doesn't it?
