Keep McCarthy, Gunter, Obita, Drenthe, Williams, Guthrie

Not overly bothered about any of the others, though it'd be nice to keep the more promising youngsters like Tshibola, Hector, Tanner etc.

soggy biscuit 1. 1871 not 1998
2. A-Zing
3. Matt Partridge
4. David Cameron
5. Middle lane drivers

Quality!
Couldn't agree more.
We've got a 'smarmometer' on the wall at work, Cameron is top, with Tony Blair!

Drenthe, Pogrebnyak and Guthrie, obviously. It would be brilliant if we could shift a couple of these, rather than having to sell any of the good young players.

So you think we'll keep Carrico? I applaud your optimism.

tbf, totally forgot about him as I thought we'd sold him in January to fund the Hobbs bid. However, from the little I saw last season I wouldn't mind him back if he's fit and his head's in the right place

1) HRK (Can't stand the sight of him - since his pay rise has been absolute dump)
2) Blackman (Not good enough)
3) Bridge (Massive money - pretty much crocked - but will almost certainly go on have yet another swan song with some other champ team next year...)
4) Gorkks (Thanks for the memories KG, but we need to look to the future now)
5) Federici (For his own sake)

To go:

Pog
Guthrie
Drenthe
Bridge
McCarthy

The first 4 because of their wages and McCarthy for the transfer fee. At the moment money is more important the squad itself so these players have to go.

However, with the exception of Bridge as he is out of contract, who is going to be willing to take these players on with the wages they are getting here?

Those out of contract that I wouldn't bother giving a new one to are:

Roberts
Legiertwood
Taylor, S
Gorkss
D'Ath and Arnold (quite liked him previously but probably needs to move on to build his career)

As long as the club are confident his injury is totally cleared up (unlike previous examples like Little, Roberts and Legiertwood) I'd give Bridge another year as well. When fit he has been excellent. McAcuff would also get another year, but, depending on who else comes and goes he might be another one who has a question mark against him due to cost and the amount he might be involved.

The five I'd like to move on but we'll need someone to cough up cash for are:

Robson-Kanu - doesn't quite cut it for me and doesn't really seem to have found his 'role'
Le Fondre - great goalscorer to bring off the bench but he still doesn't do quite enough for me and if by selling him we can afford to keep McCarthy I'd be happy
Kelly - we're overloaded with right backs and he's probably the best one to get rid of
Akpan - don't see him as good enough and he doesn't sound happy to be 4th choice behind Guthrie, Karacan and Williams or whoever we get to replace them if they go
Blackman - he's got the physical attibutes but he isn't a Championship quality forward so if we can recoup some of the silly money we spent on him we'd do pretty well and be able to get in someone more capable.

That would get the wage bill under control a bit and maybe bring in a few million as well. The biggest concern for me is losing McCarthy, which is possibly the most likely outcome this summer and also the worst thing about not going up. If we can make some shrewd inbound signings (perm or on loan) as well, players comfortable on the ball but with the energy and attributes to play in our style (a Dorrans or Wickham for example), then perhaps we'll see a bit more consistency next season and a team that can get the most out of our better players.

It shouldn't be a case of who we want to see gone, but which positions we want to see the improved upon... So how about naming players you want to see at the club and believe we could reasonably sign based on our activity in the pre-AZ championship years and the January transfer window.

Leave the wages/transfer stuff to the club - Just because a player is on £30k (or whatever) a week that doesn't mean getting rid of them will free up £30k a week to be used on player wages. This isn't football manager, Unless we know all the finances and costs we can't make those decisions.... We might see the Pog go and someone rubbish join in his place.

I want the high earners gone because i would rather see my team free of Admin and points deductions. If "some rubbish" has to join to replace the high earners then so be it.

I think it's pretty obvious that we don't have an endless pot of money to fund the squad though, so in order to bring in new players and improve on the squad, or even to manage to keep those player we do want to keep, there needs to be some realistic cost cutting going on.

To answer your point though, if we manage to clear out the deadwood in the squad that is aborbsing valuable wages without offering anything to Adkins on the pitch I'd like to see players like the following come in over the summer for the side to evolve.

A coupld of midfielders more comfortable on the ball, like Graham Dorrans or Josh McEachran, preferably one of which has 10 goals in them and can comfortably play the number 10 role
A proper physical number 9, someone like Connor Wickam and a pacey forward who's also able to play upfront on their own ala Nicky Forster in his heyday, so a Nicky Maynard or perhaps a Vaz Te
A left winger capable of McAnuff work rate and interplay but with more goals in them, someone like Scott Sinclair (perhaps a bit unlikely) or Jesse Lindgard perhaps.

So what would the squad look like for next season?

Goalkeepers
Andersen, Henly, Lincoln

Defence
Central
Pearce, Morrison, Hector, Sweeney

Full backs
Obita+, Kelly, Gunter, Cummings, Griffin, Keown, Long,

Midfielders
Central
Williams, Karacan, Akpan, Tshibola, Kuhl, Kelly

Wingers/CAM
Blackman*, Edwards, Tanner

Strikers
Robson-Kanu*, Uwgu, Samuel

* should be positionally inverted imho
+ could be on the wing, hopefully Kelly won't be first choice LB..

+ Others signed

Defence and central midfield, could be ok. Upfront we'd be stuffed. Decent core, but relegation fodder.

That's working on the absolutely worst case scenario with losses of:

Arnold, Baird, Bridge, Carriço, D'Ath, Drenthe, Federici, Gorkss, Guthrie, Le Fondre, McAnuff, McCarthy, McCleary, Pogrebnyak, Roberts, J Taylor, S Taylor

Can only see half of them going tbf, and regardless of what people think of our finances, we'll get a few in over the summer.
