Which will NEVER be sustainable without the huge cash injection that only promotion to the top flight can provide............................Reading supporters and, in particular, Adkin's arse bandits forever in Cloud Cuckoo Land.

Its been sustainable for over a decade. much of that time without pl money. In fact our last promotion was after theparachute payments ran out wasn't it

DaveBanana How do parachute payments work if you get relegated > promoted > relegated? Is there a crossover on the final year of the first relegations payments and the first year or the second relegations payments, or do they nullify eacother?

Your parachute payments stop if you get promoted, and the money is shared out between other Football League teams.

Unless they've changed the rules I think the parachute money which would otherwise be due to a club that is promoted back to the Premier League goes to the Football League and they shared out between the other FL clubs. Not sure if it's just the Championship clubs or whether it's all 72 clubs who get a share. Either way if we go back up this season we only get one season's parachute payment.

For the financial health of the club yes of course.

Do I want to watch us after going up? Not so sure .... as with the current set up we're likely to come straight back down again. And I didn't much enjoy the last two campaigns (unlike the first one).

Eh? So what's the point in being in the mix if you want to stay where you are?

Just because the payments had stopped it didn't mean we weren't still getting significant benefits from the cash injection from our 2 seasons in the Prem ........................how much did we rake in from selling Kitson, Doyle, Long , Shorey Sonko and Hunt?

The system stinks but most of those fighting it out for promotion have been in the top flight in recent years whereas, no one is expecting a serious challenge from Millwill any time soon despite reaching the Cup Final a few years back.

Only the Chairman's money allowed us to challenge at the top of this league before parachute payments and that well has now run dry.

Everyone of those clubs has been in the top flight before. Brighton are currently 8th and 24pts below Leicester with more chance of winning the national sand castle competition than promotion this season :P and this is despite very decent gates.

Even after 20 years of Chairman worship from SLM, we can only dream about having Forest's past history yet they are very much on the slide may not even make the playoffs.

Leicester were in the Prem not many years ago and, like Forest, are the sort of team we could never have competed with on level terms on Championship finance alone.

Perhaps you have forgotten one of our managers electing to leave Elm Park ( a ground not even remotely good enough to grace the Premiership) for the hallowed turf of Filbert St :|

Anyone who does not want promotion this season really is deLOLuded.

Unless we have rich new owners by the summer we are likely to see most of our out of contract players released and probably the likes of McCarthy, McCleary, Pog and ALF sold. We will then most likely have a long stay at the current level.

Yes.

If we don't want promotion the what is the point competing in the league?

I wouldnt mind a year of transition in the Championship, especially as we don't have an owner.

But it obvious that if you spend even a year in the Premiership with the most miserly of owner situations, you tend to end up with a better squad.

Promotion YES, will it happen NO.

No promotion this season will at least give a few of the up and coming academy players a chance to prove themselves next season in the Championship.

Beating Everton, Drawing with Chelsea, Morrison's header against Man United.

Better than anything I've witnessed this season. If we come back down and have a few moments like that again I'd be happy as fcuk.

Last time was a massive waste. I'd rather be a mid table Prem team than a yo-yo club. The atmosphere is 4times as good in the Premier League.
Only thing is, the proposed plans for safe standing would go up the pooper.

No.

Avoid the awful money grabbing abortion that is the Premier League and the TV exposure and riches it provides.

Sebastian I'd actually like us to be relegated. Used to love the old days in the third tier. We've been spoiled for the last decade or so. Might see some more academy prospects if we dropped a level as well. Win win.

I think the monotony and absolute drivel of those years gets lost in the exctasy of getting promoted at Griffin Park. Aside from a few nice trips to Oxford and Swindon, and Beach Day against Bournemouth :D , it was dire.

Why would you want to drop a division to let the Academy players in? Surely we want to produce players who are good enough for this level and above.

I'd rather stay in the Championship for the time being, Leicester are the proverbial Yoyo club that have been up and down for as long as I can remember, Id much prefer we scrap it out in a league we can just about afford to play in than struggle our asses off due to the lack of money it takes just to gain a foothold in the Prem.
Looking back in our previous sortes in the Prem , last time round was a dreadful period and prior to that the league was more open, ie less money around (Man City) and alike, I think we need to gain a few more years in the Championship wait until we can get an investor that's willing to spend the money then make a concerted effort to gain a place there.
