Royalclapper The only things Hillsborough and Heysel are symbols for is the total disregard to football spectator safety that Authorities displayed at that time.

I don't think you're quite right on Heysel. The Authorities didn't make Liverpool fans charge the fence did they?

PieEater Nice one TVP
Thames Valley Police said out of 18 fixtures at the stadium last season, only two were policed.

Supt Stuart Greenfield, area commander for Reading, said: "We would say that Reading Football Club is one of the best run football clubs in the FA.

"It's irresponsible and I don't think it portrays the right picture of Reading football club at all."

So with just one shyte piece of sensationalist journalism, the Reading Chronic have p*ssed off two important sources of news material!

Nice one Mr Gutterpress/ridge and Mr O'Brien.

Maguire Seriously though, everyone banging on about libel seems to have missed the point that the whole article is based on facts provided by the police.

Says you who windmilled into six away fans outside the ground, when they were just minding their own business. THUG.

Agreed Mags. We know these things happen on a match day now and again. I wouldn't say it's a massive problem at Reading but there is still trouble when the 'right' team is in town.

Only it would seem that the police themselves are far from happy about the way the Chronic has tried to twist those 'facts' in order to suggest that there is a problem when in reality there isn't!

Norfolk Royal
Stuka Thank you. Just brilliant.

Going on this soon

I think I've just died and gone to heaven. Can you pay on the day?

I went on it last year - it is right £2 a pint and a choice of 5 I think so it all has to go on the night. Tickets in advance essential I would say (and a lift back from Alresford essential)

No they didn't, that's true. Thinking more along the lines of putting the two sets of fans on the same end as each other in a crumbling ramshackle stadium barely fit for purpose - but yes, I agree, it's different situation to the one that happened at Hillsborough.

Valley Parade was also a particular tragedy that wouldn't happen these days yet never gets played up anywhere near the same due to the now obvious fire hazard being somewhat overlooked by virtually all concerned - and yet it could be argued that it's similar in that no one really gave a flying one for spectator safety.

...publish an apology to the thousands of Reading FC fans who have been hurt and offended by the implication in your article that hooliganism is rife

Jeez, get over yourselves. Thousands of fans "hurt and offended"

I haven't seen hyperbole like that since, well, I read the Chronicle yesterday.

Agreed.

Let's not forget that if there is a victim in all this then it's Liverpool.

A friend of mine, a Mr Geoffrey Crease, has placed a comment on this individual's Twitter feed. It reads:

'Not a single mention of the Typing Rod Mayhem riot. Nor the feared "spunk canon". Unprofessional…'

One would hope that such input adds to the debate...

Brilliant TV show.
The article is similar to the kind of expose that Damian (Stephen Tomkinson's character) used to come up with.
