Team for Huddersfield (H)

by Ian Royal » 26 Mar 2014 17:37

Well I think there's one thing we can all agree on and that's it won't be the same XI.

..................Federici
....Gunter, Pearce, Hector, Obita
..........Akpan, Taylor, Tshibola
Drenthe........................McAnuff
................Pogrebnyak

Subs: McCarthy, Morrison, Kelly, Robson-Kanu, Kuhl, Le Fondre, McCleary.

McCarthy looks in need of a break and perhaps Fed can inspire some confidence, maybe his better long kicking will help. Gunter's been playing well recently so I'd let him off. We don't really have an alternative to Obita and he's been ok. Gorkss has been hit and miss for ages, more miss in my opinion. Pearce at least shows he cares, although the temptation to drop him for Morro is big. McAnuff needs to get back wide to help Obita out. McCleary doesn't seem to have had a good game for a while again. Pad out the midfield with numbers as the only options are youngsters. Akpan was one of the better players last night. Ish. Drenthe at least tries to play dangerous balls and beat his man even if his execution was terrible. I can't see anyone else leading the line except Pog, although maybe we should give HRK another go at it as we've done alright starting that way.

ALF on the bench at least gives us something to threaten with when chasing a game, although last night it was pointless given the entire team was woeful. He's not going to create much from no service.

It would be tempting to drop everyone involved on Tuesday night.
In fairness Gunter and mcanuff had off days having been consistently decent. Jobi was out of position (although given limited options I'd have played him there as well). Given we need to rest the under 18s for Tuesday night:

Federici (McCarthy on bench)

Gunter
Obita
Hector
Morrison if fit, otherwise either Pearce or gorkss. Start with one. Switch it at half time if we see anything like last night.

Akpan & Taylor in the middle. Tshibola on the bench in case akpan is poor.

Mccleary & mcanuff on wings. Blackman & hrk on bench.

Drenthe - with tanner & alfie waiting on bench

Pog

I don't expect to see the changes I'd like while we're still in the race for the top 6, but I would at the very least drop Gorkss for Hector for Saturday, and after Saturday drop Akpan for Taylor. If I had my way there would be some big changes this weekend. Reinvigorate the first-team and bring players in who are used to Adkin's system, but that's still several games away.

Gunter ---------------- Pearce --------------- Hector ----------------- Obita

McCleary ------------- Taylor ---------------- Tshibola ------------ McAnuff

Looks like everyone's finally giving up on Gorkss. I love the man, but he needs at least a game on the bench after that abysmal performance against Barnsley.

-----------------Federici--------------------

Gunter--------Pearce-----Morrison--------Obita

McCleary-----Hector-----McAnuff-------Drenthe

-----------Pogrebnyak-------Le Fondre-----------

Subs: McCarthy, Kelly, Gorkss, Taylor, Tshibola, HRK, Blackman,

The silence is deafening with Williams, and i'm starting to worry that they're waiting on scans etc before announcing what's going on with him. Back this season? I'm starting to wonder.

Feds needs to start over McCarthy. Only a temp move to give Alex a kick up the arse/reminder that we've got one of the best in the league fighting for his place.

I'm still not convinced by Morrison, but his return to fitness has coincided well with Gorkss' flop.

Done with Akpan, i'd now rather play other players out of position rather than give him another start. I know we're really short of defensive midfielders, and it's not deal, but Hector has played there, and he's got to be worth a shot at this point.

McCleary proved last night that he's a RM, and he has little to no use on the left hand side.

McAnuff to stay in the middle, but would push Drenthe out on the left if Guthrie or Williams were playable.

McCarthy won't be dropped, can almost guarantee it.

McCarthy

Gunter
Pearce/Gorkss (I can't decide who's worse, not even kidding)
Hector
Obita

McCleary
Akpan
Taylor
McAnuff
Drenthe

Pog

That's what I think it'll be, I'd rather anyone but Akpan and to play two up front, but I can't see it. Hopefully Williams might be fit, if he is, him in for Taylor, obviously.

Shame he doesn't name the team the day before, so I can decide whether to bother going.

Harsh on Hector though and not ideal given their forthcoming big game. Also harsh on Kelly, Fridge and Fosu. Kelly's a little small still, needs a growth spurt, Fridge not quite convinced yet, and Fosu needs to work on his decision making and team play IMO.

Generally don't care enought to post on the predict the team threads.
But if I was Kelly, Hector or Federici I would be absolutely furious if I didn't get a start in this Saturday's game.

If the trio of Gunter, Gorkss and McCarthy don't deserve to be dropped after Tuesday's shameful display then the world has gone mad.

And for the love of god let's have at least 2 CMs on the pitch. Taylor, Tshibola or both IN.

tbh I'd be happy with a team of:

................Federici
Kelly.......Hector.... Pearce.......Obita
McCleary..Taylor.....Tshibola.....McAnuff
.................Drenthe
...................HRK

Bench: McCarthy, Gunter, Cummings, Akpan, Tanner, Pogrebnyak, Le Fondre

McCarthy and Gorkss, maybe fair enough, but this has been a blip for Gunter, crap though he was I certainly wouldn't be dropping him based on one game.

Isn't that how they pick the match officials?

There's only 4 of them, our attendances are still a little high to make winnowing it down to that many easy enough.

Good team. I'd rather rest the bulk of them for Tuesday night's game.
With Williams, Jem & Ledge all out and Guthrie banned I'd like to see Tshibola given a chance in the centre.

Seconded. Gunter has been consistently good this season, up until Tuesday night. It took me quite a while to realise that as well.
