Apparently he's gone and the media are just waiting for confirmation now. He was talking to the PFA today as well. If Warnock turned down Forest, he's unlikely to fancy Pompey. I hope the club descend into oblivion no matter who they bring in! I hope that FA Cup was worth it!

They may turn to Andy Awford until the end of the season... surely sticking with Barker and supporting him makes more sense? But this is the comedy club we're talking about.

Warnock's a bit far-fetched but he only turned down Forest because he didn't have full autonomy that he feels a manager should have. Forest have the transfer committee do they not, and the chairman's a bit of a bellend, hasn't allowed a manager a full season since he's been at the helm. At Pompey at least he'd have full autonomy, just he wouldn't have a lot of money. And he's a far better manager than League 2.

There are many reasons to enjoy their demise but these are just 2 of them

When exactly were they 'great' ?

Admittedly, they did win the FA Cup ( using money they didn't have and lending a helping hand to our demise from the PL )

Imagine my delight on discovering I wagered a whole TEN POUNDS on Portsmouth to be relegated at the start of the season. Odds were 40/1.

Northampton have been my second team since we first got promoted to the prem, so I will be with you in spirit at the penultimate game...come on you cobblers!

They're right though. There were a few decent European campaigns from Portsmouth in the 16th Century.

So that's another load of compensation that Pompey will have to pay out then

Down here the conjecture is Pompey playing against Eastleigh in a League game next season.
The equivalent is something like Reading playing at the same level as Basingstoke or Maidenhead.

My nan was born in Portsmouth before moving up North to .....Reading so I have always had a bit of a soft spot for the town and, like Hampshire Royal I know a number of their fans.
They are not all like those that people quote on here-imagine how fans of other clubs would feel about some of the twats who are Reading fans and who post on here.

I don't like seeing the demise of clubs with a history showing that they were once one of the better sides around-I didn't like it when Wolves and Sheff Wed. went down as far as the 4th tier, nor when it happened to Burnley who nearly went out of the league, nor when Villa,Man City and Leeds and Forest went down to the 3rd tier.
Obviously I loved it when Man Utd went down to the 2nd tier and likewise Spurs.

I fully uderstand why people will gloat because usually these things happen when there is mis-management and I will be forever grateful for what Roger Smee and his mates did in stopping us possibly becoming a non-league side.
In the case of Pompey it might be a good thing, like Rangers in Scotland and as happened at Newport County, if they were to drop out of the league and regroup and rebuild but it doesn't change how I feel which is a sense of sadness when this sort of thing happens for the long-standing fans although in Pompey's case they have mixed with the lower echelons of lower league football when the b******s always seemed to beat us.

why? that is just sport

you stop performing at the level you are at then you drop down and someone else performing better than their level moves up.
