Oh Anton...

Atlant Players Unpaid for Over 3 Months

MOSCOW, March 30 (R-Sport) - Players at the Atlant Moscow Region KHL hockey team have complained to the league after going unpaid for over three months, sources with knowledge of the situation told R-Sport on Sunday.
Five experienced Atlant players have asked the league for permission to leave the club as free agents due to breach of contract, a source said.
“The Atlant players have not received wages for more than three months already,” another source said. “The last payments were carried out in December of last year.”
Atlant has historically been a power in the KHL, Europe’s largest hockey league, reaching the Gagarin Cup finals in 2011 before defeat to Salavat Yulaev Ufa. However, the team missed the playoffs for the first time this season, finishing ninth in the Western Conference.
One of Atlant's major financial backers is Anton Zingarevich, a Russian businessman who bought 51 percent of English Championship football club Reading FC in 2012 and has since courted controversy by allegedly reneging on promises to buy the remaining 49 percent of the club and to invest millions of pounds in the club.
Another major shareholder in Atlant is the Moscow Region government, which has been keen to reduce its funding for professional sports teams in recent years, also cutting back funding for the state-backed BC Khimki basketball club.

A miniscule crumb of comfort that at least we're not alone at being dropped into the shitter.

English Championship side Reading could reportedly be the subject of a takeover bid from Italian entrepreneur Francesco Becchetti.

Becchetti and former Juventus and Roma director Gian Paolo Montali have been seen as in talks with Bologna over a proposed takeover of the Emilia-Romagna outfit.

However, on from majority shareholder and President Albano Guaraldi’s apparent reluctance to move beyond initial negotiations, the Gazzetta dello Sport suggest that the duo are now focused elsewhere.

Following Massimo Cellino’s recently blocked attempt to take over at Leeds United, the pink paper report that Becchetti, head of the Becchetti Enegry Group and Montali toured fellow Championship club Reading’s facilities at the end of last week, before taking in Saturday afternoon’s game against Huddersfield at the Medejski Stadium.

The Gazzetta have it that with initial contact now in place, negotiations between Becchetti, Montali and the club’s current owners Thames Sport Investment, led by Anton Zingarevich, will take place in the coming days.

Becchetti and Montali’s tour of England reportedly has also seen the latter meet with representatives from Birmingham City and Leyton Orient.

Former Siena and Catania Coach Marco Giampaolo, who has been linked with the Ascoli bench, was allegedly also with the duo.
